Adam Porter (McPherson) 15:18 5k blazer at Buhler highlight's a strong week of action

Buhler Invitational @ Buhler HS, 9/17/09:  The Buhler cross country course has always been known to be fast, but put Adam Porter of McPherson, argurably the
state's top harrier on it, and watch out.  Porter absolutely flew over the course to a 15:18 5k clocking, winning by well over a minute.  Casey Nightengale
(El Dorado, 16:31) and Morgan Peterson (McPherson 16:33), strong runners in their own right, were left in 2nd and 3rd in Porter's wake.  McPherson scored a
narrow 57-60 win over El Dorado for the boy's team title.  In the girl's race Molly Milbourn of El Dorado was also off to a dominant fast win.  Millbourn
cruised over the course to a 14:47 4k win, also triumphing by over a minute.  Mallory Coffman (Newton 16:05) and Shelby Nelson (Buhler (16:05) followed in 2nd and third. 
Newton's girls continued a strong season, winning the team title with 49 points.  Buhler was second with 68.

Clay Center Invitational 9/17/09 @ Clay Center Country Club, Clay Center:  The Wamego boys dominated their race, putting in the first three runners with Riley
Woodward (16:36 5k), Kevin White (17:22), and Hudson Phillip (17:31) over the hilly route.  Wamego scored 20 points for the win, with Clay Center second
with 97.  Brielle Lund of Clay Center gave the home folks cause to cheer, running to a 16:31 4k win wiht Concordia's Page Reed second (16:53) and Sarah Faerber
(Sacred Heart, Salina) third at 17:04.  Wamego packed tightly to win the girl's team race with 44 points, with Concordia second with 73.

Bonner Springs Invitational 9/19/09 @ Wyandotte County Park, Kansas City Kansas:  Bridgette McCormick (St. James, Lenexa) continued her strong fall campaign
with a 15:26 victory over the hilly 4k course at Wyandotte County Park.  McCormick pulled away from Page Miller (Pittsburg, 15:41) and Bethany Zarda (Maranatha
Academy, Shawnee, 15:50) for the win.  Carly Stanley (15:51) AND Beth Richenberger (15:53) ran 4-5 for DeSoto.  Miller jump started Pittsburg to the girl's team
title with 82 points, edging Mill Valley (DeSoto) second with 97 and DeSoto a clost third with 99.  In the boy's race Brooks Ballou of host Bonner Springs
moved to a 16:31 win, pulling away from freshman Angel Vasquez of DeSoto (16:34), with Pete Lamoe (Lansing) third at 16:45.  In the boy's team race, DeSoto packed
all seven runners in the first thirteen scorers to dominate with 30 points.  Paola (103) edged Mill Valley (DeSoto) (104) for third.

Turner Invitational 9/16/09:  Derby made the long treck from the Wichita region worthwhile, conquering Goat Hill and one of the toughest courses around to sweep team titles
at the Turner Invitational.  Derby's Neil Metler continued a fine season with a 17:15 5k win.  David Stodden (St. Pius X, Kansas City MO) was second at 17:29, with
Ben Anstaett (Olathe North 17:56) edging Drew Keefer (St. Pius X, Kansas City MO 17:57) for third.  Derby edged Olathe North 58-59 for the team title with Turner
(Kansas City) third with 77 points.  In the girl's race Derby's Amber Green (16:44 4k) and Emily Hornbeck (16:54) took and immediate lead and pulled away to a 1-2
finish.  Clarissa Johnson of Gardner-Edgerton was third at 17:43, with Julia Dury (Blue Springs MO 17:56) also under 18:00 on the brutal course. Defending
6A state champ and #1 state ranked Derby easily controlled the girl's team race with 30 points.  BLue Springs MO was second with 60 and Gardner-Edgerton
third with 85.

Peabody-Burns Invitational 9/17/09:  Highly regarded Aaron Topham (Peabody-Burns) took a 17:52 win over Zach Weber (Hesston 17:56) in a clash of top central
Kansas small school runners, with Zach Baumgartner (Hesston) close at 18:03 in third.  Weber and Baumgartner keyed Hesston to a 59-86 win over Peabody, with
Hillsboro third with 93 in a tightly packed team race.  Jillian Stratman of Bennington, a state championship contender in 2A, won easily over 4k with a 16:11
clocking.  Logan Davis of Clearwater was second at 16:31 with Morgan Tribble (Whitewater-Remington) third at 16:51.  Clearwater packed six runners in the top tean
for a stunningly easy win with 25 points.  Whitewater-Remington was second with 62, and Bennington third with 77 points.

Northern Heights Invitational @ NHHS, Allen 9/17/09: Katelyn Henderson, a state championships contender in 2A, led her Olpe team to a narrow win over host Northern Heights with a 15:43 4k triumph.  Kimberly Smith of Northern Heights was second in 16:19, followed in third by Katelynn Albin (Council Grove).  Henderson's Olpe team won a 54-55 victory over Northern Heights for the girls title.  Cole Carlson (17:20 5k) and Richard Woodward (17:32) ran 1-2 for Osage City in the boy's race, with Colby Nuessen (Olpe 17:42) in third.  Osage City won the boys title 23-45 over Olpe.
