| Wills beats Zeinasellassie in US#2 14:54.8
Highlights
- Mason OH jr Zach Wills, ranked #2 in the DyeStat Elite Top 25, won his dual with North Central IN soph and defending champ Futsum Zeinaselllassie by more than 19 seconds Saturday. Wills' 14:54.8 to win the Open Division is 2nd in course history to Chris Derrick's 2007 record of 14:47.9. Zeinasellassie, 7th in last year's Foot Locker Finals and the #1 returnee, was 2nd in 15:14.0, 13 seconds ahead of 3rd-place David Osborn of Chesterton IN (15:27.6)
- US#22 Columbus North IN boys beat the best in Indiana for the 2nd straight time in the Open race, using a tight 7-10-12 finish at the top to score 78 in the 32-team field. US#29 Carmel was 2nd with 105 and US#31 North Central 3rd with 124. North Central is actually ranked ahead of others in the last regional rankings, which were a week earlier
- The girls Open team battle went to Carmel IN, which got a 3-6 punch at the top and spread their scorers out for 74 points in the 29-team field. Columbus North IN was 2nd with 104 and Sylvania Northview OH a distant 3rd with 192
- Sylvania Northview's Meredith Wagner had an impressive individual win, running 17:53.4. the fastest since the girls race distance increased from 4k to 5k two years ago. She beat defending champ Dana Payonk (Lake Central) 18:15.0, and last year's #2, Renee Wellman (Carmel) 18:26.2
