3 US-leading marks: Leleux, Forbes, Pinckney

Friday Results - Saturday Results

Saturday flash highlights - LIVE (heat by heat) RESULTS
  • Completing a great jumps double, Sprint Athletic's (Martin Luther King HS, GA) Demar Forbes soared US#1 24-06.50 in the long jump.
  • New Iberia Catholic soph Morgann Leleux wins girls PV in meet record and US#1 13-02.50, beating former Bayou prep great Rachel Laurent's mark.  High Vaultage Club's (St. Paul's AL) Neal Tisher was 2nd at 11-10.
  • Titans TC's (Columbia HS, GA) Takeia Pinckney ripped a US#1 7.04 in the 55 dash, forging a solid .09 margin.
  • Pass Christian MS jr Cory McGee topped St. Thomas Aquinas LA jr Malia Cali in a thrilling US#1 1600, 4:55.70 to 4:57.03. Cali's time was an indoor Louisiana state record.
  • Starkville MS sr Tavaris Tate ripped a 48.43 400 in his first major meet of the year, by far the fastest flat-track 400 of the season and a time that would have been US #1 anyway before today.  He was just .04 off Chris Ward's meet record.
  • Wings Elite's (Atascocito HS, TX) Cameron LaCour blazed a 7.45 55H, following an even-faster US#2 7.42 prelim.
  • South Alabama Storm's (St. Paul's HS, AL) soph Kenyatta Hackworth spanned 19-00 in the LJ.
  • Lacassine LA sr Joseph Caraway soared 16-00 in the pole vault.
  • San Antonio Blazers' (San Antonio Stevens HS) sr Rynell Parson had the best time of 6.47 in the 55 prelims, but his 6.43 in the final was 2nd to Redemptorist LA's Cornell Hill's 6.40.
  • Visions' (Galena Park HS, TX) April Washington dominated the girls 400 in 57.42.
  • Titans TC (GA) took the boys 4x200 in a quick flat-track 1:29.36.

Friday highlights
  • Fast flat-track 4x200 prelims started the action, with the Southern Eagles girls (1:43.81) and Titans TC boys (1:30.45) clubs leading the way.
  • Sprint Athletic's (Martin Luther King HS, GA) Demar Forbes had the top field event mark of the night, winning the triple jump in 48-01.25, more than a foot ahead of Texas Greyhound's (Temple HS) Tevin Reese.  The girls TJ went to Falcon Flyers' (Fort Worth Country Day HS) Nicole Dory (36-11).
  • Two-thirds of the individual distance events were contested as St. Scholastica LA's Catherine Pereira (12:18.70) and Texas Storm's (Aldine Eisenhower HS) David Smith (9:56.25) took the 3200s, and NTC Elite (DeSoto TX) Tia Gamble (2:23.46) and Spring Hill TC's (UMS-Wright HS, AL) Robert Willett (2:02.06) grabbed the 800s.
  • TX star Stephen Saenz did not show, but the boys shot was won by Fast Forward's (Adline MacArthur HS, TX) Mark McCoy (52-11.50), while San Antonio Five's (Converse Judson HS) Taylor Rosser took the girls (44-00).

Potential Highlights
(note: some athletes mentioned are also entered in Arkansas Invitational)
  • San Antonio Stevens (San Antonio Blazers) sr Rynell Parson's comeback takes flight here in the 55, where he is two-time defending champ (6.25 last year).  After setting soph class records in 2007 at 200 indoors (21.62) and 100 outdoors (10.23), Parson was injured most of last year.
  • Starkville MS sr Tavaris Tate leads the 400 field, an event where he ran several mid-low 46s outdoors last spring (US#2 46.39) and was 2nd at Nike Outdoor.  McEachern GA (Titans TC) jr Jaron Robertson (47.30 outdoors) coudl be his main challenger.
  • Rio Grande City sr Stephen Saenz is the top thrower here.  His US#3 65-09.75 from last week, which won the Throwers Summit in Anaheim CA, has been verified to have really been 67-7 - still #3 in this incredible early season for putters.  Officials admitted they mis-recorded a 20.60 meters throw as 20.06.
  • Though Bayou legend and 2-time meet champ Rachel Laurent is now an LSU Tiger, the event will be a fine battle between soph sensation Morgann Leleux, who set US freshman outdoor record at 13-02 last year, and St. Paul's Episcopal Alabama star and champ Neal Tisher (12-9).
  • The boys 55H field includes Atascocito TX (Wings Elite) sr Cameron LaCour (#3 returnee at 60H 7.97, 13.74w 110H), Hightower TX (Wings Elite) sr Trayvion Jones (14.12 110H outdoors) and Temple TX (Texas Greyhounds) sr Tevan Reese (37.25 300H).
  • The top distance runners in Mississippi and Louisiana - Pass Christian MS jr Cory McGee and St. Thomas LA jr Malia Cali - are scheduled to clash in the 1600.  McGee is entered in the prestigious Millrose Games Jan. 30, where she was 2nd last year, and has run 4:48 for the mile.  Cali is the defending NSIC 2M champ.
  • The 55 includes the #2 (11.54) and #3 (11.58) US returnees at 100m, Columbia GA (Titans TC) sr Takeia Pinckney (7.51 60) and Ft. Worth Dunbar jr (Dallas Gold TC) Ashley Collier (7.01 for 55).
  • Christway Academy TX (Genesis) soph Nia Fluker, who ran 54.08 and 2:08.69 for 400/800 last spring, will try the 400 and the 55.  Her challengers will include Dallas Skyline sr (Dallas Gold TC) Candace Jackson (23.83 200 outdoors).
  • The speed relays, with a variety of club and school teams from Texas, Georgia, and other states, are always a highlight.
