2. Rogers AR (US#13)
3. The Woodlands TX (US#23)
4. Southlake Carroll TX

The Woodlands, which lost its South #1 spot last week after finishing behind Cedar Park and Rogers at its own Nike South Invite, came back to beat Rogers 23-68 at the Chile Pepper (AR) Festival, averaging 15:52 with a 43-second spread. More impressively, its 5th man was "only" 1:14 behind individual champ Colby Lowe. The Woodlands was led by jr Reed Connor in 4th, and got better performances from sr Layne Nixon in 5th, sr Michael Golden in 8th and jr Drew Butler in 9th. Rogers scored 4 in the top 24 and averaged 16:11, followed by West Plains MO in 3rd with 144, Plano West TX with 174 and Houston TN with 205 to round out the top 5. Southlake Carroll only ran 4 boys in this meet, with sr Colby Lowe clocking 14:53 for the gold and jr C.J. Brown 2nd in 15:20.1, the same 1-2 finish they've posted every meet this season. Lockhart sr Rory Tunningley nipped Reed Connor at the line for bronze, 15:24.8 to 15:25.0.

The Woodlands coach Dan Green said, “Reed Connor ran much closer to (Southlake Carroll’s) C.J. Brown than last week, and our 1-5 spread was still tighter by 14 seconds. Our entire top 7 ran faster today than they did here last year.”

Rogers coach Carlton Efurd said, “Most years we would be happy to finish 2nd at the Chile Pepper, but our expectations are higher this year. It was a bit disappointing. Two of our top 5 ran slower than they ran (here) last year. That's a good indication we didn't run quite up to our potential."

Next: Rogers, The Woodlands and Southlake Carroll are off this week
