Rogers AR boys at Missouri Southern Stampede

SO#7 Mountaineers win a big one

Saturday, Sept. 15, 2007 Missouri Southern State University, Joplin, MO

Report from Bob Kelly, ArkansasTrackStats.net:
The Rogers (Arkansas) Mounties were on an early season mission to test themselves and took a solid win at the Southern Stampede (Missouri Southern State University, Joplin) in the 39-team Boys Division 1 Meet by 53-138-149-158 over regionally-ranked Potosi (MO), Emporia (KS) and Tulsa (OK) Union. The Mounties were led by Aaron Hamilton in 3rd at 15:21 for 5K with their top 5 all under 16 minutes. Potosi juniors Jacob Swearingen and Nick Niggemann finished 1-2 with excellent clockings of 15:00 and 15:10, respectively. Steven Baker (Tulsa Union) edged out Taylor Surly (Rogers) for 5th by 15:22-15:23. The always fast grass course through the lightly rolling hills saw 22 runners finish at 16:01 or better.

Rogers Coach Carlton Efurd:
"This is one of the bigger wins that I've been a part of coaching the Mounties. What a great surprise! Our practices times told me we were in good shape. I thought if we ran well we would have a chance to win and obviously we ran well against some great competition!"

"We ran about as good as we could as a team. We didn't have our 4th and 5th guys due to a soccer tournament so I was really pleased with Jordan Falls 20th place finish. He really stepped up big! Forrest Roth had an outstanding race. He really finished strong!"

Highlights -
“We had 5 guys under 16:00.”
“Beating Potosi who is ranked 8th in the Heartland region and won the Chile Pepper last year.”
