Kroeger, Keveren win again; Oak Ridge SE#2 girls and SE#5 boys sweep titles

AAA Boys - Sean Keveren got another good battle from Knoxville West jr Matt Sonnenfeldt, but the Brentwood sr prevailed for his 2nd title, 15:46-15:52.  Oak Ridge sr MacLean O'Donnell was 3rd in 15:58 as this trio were the only sub-16 runners of the day.  As expected, SE#2 Oak Ridge rolled to their 3rd straight state title, scoring 48 to runner-up Houston's 120, and SE bubble team Maryville (137).  They had 3 in the top 10 and 6 in the top 18.  Their team average was best of the day, topping SE#4 Baylor's from D2, Class AA.

AAA Girls - While she didn't have the mind-boggling sub-17 of a year ago, Independence jr and Foot Locker defending champ Kathy Kroeger still had by far the best performance of the day with her 3rd state title.  She was the only runner under 18 at 17:57, with fellow Foot Locker finalist and White Station sr Virginia Hine 2nd at 18:40.  Science Hill jr Allie Scalf was also under 19 at 18:52.  SE#5 Oak Ridge also dominated here, as anticipated, with a 4-7-8-9-15 finish for 43 points, with Science Hill 2nd at 102 and Dobyns-Bennett 3rd at 135.  Their 19:42 avg. was tops on the day as they topped the podium for the first time since 1999..

A-AA Boys - Macon County jr Brandon Mahaney won by 20 seconds over McKenzie jr Mark Cole in 16:24.  University School of Johnson City (US-JC) was a 10-point winner, their first title, with 72 points to Martin Luther King's 82, and David Lipscomb's 88.  It was University's top 3, at 5-8-10, that sealed the win.

A-AA Girls - Chattanooga Christian jr Jessica Duble won her 2nd title by 24 seconds with a 19:42, with USJ freshman Audrey Hazlehurst 2nd at 20:06.  US-JC also won here with 47 points, a big 62 ahead of Jackson Christian.  It was their 3rd consecutive title.  The winners' 2nd-5th runners were packed in at 9-10-11-14.

Div 2, AA Boys - SE#4 Baylor got a 1-2 finish from sr Waldo Du Plessis (16:08) and jr Bill Matthews (16:23) as they rolled to victory with 22 points, 50 ahead of Christian Brothers (72).  It was Baylor's first win since 2000.  Montgomery Bell Academy was 3 more points back with 75.  Baylor's 16:38 average was 8 ticks back of Oak Ridge's in AAA.

Div 2, AA Girls - Regionally unheralded St. Agnes compiled a 19:47 average, just 5 ticks behind Oak Ridge from AAA, in winning by 36.  They went 1-5-7-12-14 for 39 and their first state championship, with Ensworth 2nd with 75.  The winners are dominated by youngsters, with freshman Kacey Norbert winning with the 2nd best time of the day, 18:37.  Their top 4 included 3 9th-graders and an 8th-grader.

Div. 2, A Boys - University School of Nashville won a tight 3-way battle, scoring 40 to top St. George's (50) and Harding (51).  St. George's sr Stephen Williams won in 16:59.  This was the first year for two classes in D2 for boys and girls.

Div. 2, A Girls - University School of Nashville also won here with 25 points in the small field of four.  St. Andrew's fr Keely Stewart was the victory in 21:26.
