Traveled to Florida and scored 17 points to easily win the Embry-Riddle/Smoothie King Classic on a very challenging course on Saturday after competing in a low-key area meet on Tuesday. The course is what meet directors described as “one of the most challenging in the state of Florida. It is a true cross country course including all types of terrains, well-groomed athletic fields, a 150-meter grass hill, short sand trail and Florida’s fastest track surface (Mondo). With the rain for 4 straight days, the course was muddy, swampy, very sandy and, according to people in Florida, hilly. It was humid and hot.
Thomas Porter won, and ran superb considering he had been sick and had not run since Monday.   Seventh man, Stephen Henry, was 10th overall and also was coming off being sick. Goal was to keep the top 7 as close together for the first loop (about 2.5k) and then move from there and keep 2-7 as close as possible.
