Dent and Doughty beat defending champs in AAA
Grafton boys end Ravenswood's AA run; 1st ever titles for Jefferson & St. Marys girls

Team Champs:
  • Class AAA - Cabell Midland boys 37 over Jefferson 82; Jefferson girls 73 over University 80
  • Class AA/A - Grafton boys 57 over Berkeley Springs 98; St. Marys girls 81 over Grafton 87

Boys Highlights
  • Cabell Midland, which was dominant earlier in the decade, won its first AAA title since 2004 in decisive fashion, scoring five in the top 13 and pulling away from Jefferson (82) and Fairmont Sr. (106) on the final three runners
  • In the AAA individual battle, defending champ Cody Pelliccione - who was only the 2nd ever to break 16 here last year - was relagated to 2nd by Jefferson junior Brandon Doughty (10th in 2008), 16:31.46-16:50.39
  • The AA/A team race saw Grafton break Ravenswood's 9-year win streak with 57 points, winning by 41 over Berkeley Springs.  Grafton junior Drew Woodford was the individual winner in 17:09.02, 16 seconds ahead of Berkeley Springs sr John Mundey
Girls Highlights
  • Jefferson won its first girls AAA title with 73, building a solid lead through 4 runners and hanging on to beat 2-time defending champ University by seven.  Hurricane was third with 98
  • Hurricane sr Alex Dent, 4th last year, rose up for a big victory in 19:15.83, 26 seconds ahead of Fairmont sr Chelsea Clark.  Elkins jr and two time champ Letitia Propst was 3rd in 19:42.01, just 0.26 behind Clark
  • The best team race of the weekend saw St. Marys (81) get a tight win over Grafton (87), Berkeley Springs (88), and defending champ Shady Spring (89) in AA/A.  It was St Marys first title ever and they were led by freshman Maggie Drazba, who was individual champ in 20:08.50, 16 seconds up on Grafton sr Molly Summers
