Cordova boys join Science Hill girls as AAA champs Sharika Nelvis's quadruples in AAA girls (US#3 41.99 300H); More triples: Lavender & Matthews in D2
Top Headlines
- Cordova used its crack long sprint/mid-distance crew to take the AAA boys crown. They won the 4x800 (7:52.01) and 4x400 (3:19.62). Individually, Quartez Clark scored 18 in the unique combo of the 400 (1st, 47.76) and discus (2nd, 156-08), while Leoman Momoh took a great 800 from Maryville sr Jordan Chaney, 1:51.81-1:51.83.
- The Brentwood boys trailed Cordova by 1 point, 54-53, going into the final event, the 4x400, where they were defending champs. However, their quartet was DQ'd by a jewelry violation.
- Science Hill edged Knoxville West, 64-59, to take the girls AAA title. Allie Scalf won the 1600 for the champs in 5:04.09 and was part of the winning 9:28.97 4x800. Jasmine Foster added 11 points in the throws.
- Memphis Northside sr Sharika Nelvis had a stunning quadruple in AAA, sweeping the short sprints and hurdles, topped off with a US#3 41.99 in the 300H. She also won the 100H (14.03, +0.0w), the 100 (11.89, +0.0w), and 200 (24.19, -1.8w).
- University School of Nashville soph Jordan Lavender swept the D2 sprints, highlighted by an all-classes best 55.62 in the 400. She also won the 100 (12.27, +0.0w), 200 (25.16, -2.2w), and was 2nd in the LJ (18-00.50, nwi)
- Baylor sr Bill Matthews swept the D2 distances, winning the 3200 (9:32.46), 1600 (4:16.13), and 800 (1:55.29)
- White Station jr Jarael Nelvis took the AAA 200 in US#4 21.12 (+0.0w). He was also 2nd in the 100 (10.74, +1.7w)
- Maryville sr Jordan Chaney, 2nd in the aforementioned AAA 800 in 1:51.83, also won the 1600 in 4:13.19
- Howard freshman LaQuisha Jackson doubled the 100 (11.87, +0.0w) and 200 (24.53, -2.2w) to help her team to the AA-A title
- Maryville soph Julia Petree took the AAA 400 in 55.63
- Baylor's only wins were in the 4x400 (4:01.33) and 4x800 (9:42.99), but they were deep in numerous events in rolling up 122 points for the girls D2 title.
- Knoxville Webb frosh Marjorie Butler swept the girls D2 hurdles, winning the 100H (14.67, +0.0) and 300H (43.94), and also taking 2nd in the 100 (12.43)
- David Lipscomb sr Zach Rogers took the A-AA LJ in 23-08 (nwi)
