CBA goes for  300 in a row

The greatest streak in New Jersey high school sports and one of the most remarkable in U.S. history will turn 300 on Monday.
Christian Brothers Academy, ranked No. 20 in the nation by DyeStat Elite/ESPN Rise and No. 2 in the Northeast, is riding a national record streak of 298 straight dual meets victories, a streak that began on Sept. 19, 1974. That's right - 35 YEARS without a dual meet loss!.

The last time CBA lost (1973), Richard Nixon was president, gas was 39 cents a gallon, a stamp was 8 cents, the average home was $35,500 and milk was $1.31a gallon.

After defeating Freehold Township, 15-47 last Thursday in Freehold, CBA is now poised to bump its magical mark up to 300 on Monday when it hosts Colts Neck and Manalapan in a tri-meet in Lincroft
.
Tom Heath, CBA's head coach since 1970, will surely be wearing his trademark pink shirt when his sends his top 11 Colts to the starting line for the milestone victory.

Heath, the Vince Lombardi of high school cross-country coaches in N.J., put No. 300 in perspective. ``It's obviously not a state or national record or anything like that,'' said Heath, whose 2004 team broke the previous national record of 265 straight dual meets. ``But it's a nice number. When you think about how long that streak has lasted, it's kind of crazy. It's all a little unbelievable.''

While Heath will certainly bask in the moment of the milestone victory, he knows his celebration will be short lived because of a huge early season matchup with US#6/NE#1 Haddonfield, at the Bowdoin Park Classic next Saturday in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
