Senior D.J. Thornton of Union Catholic, sidelined for a month with an SI Joint injury, outkicked junior Thomas Chin of Summit to win his season debut in 16:21 to lead his team to the Mountain Division title. Chin was second in 16:24.
Westfield, led by winner Ryan Scrudato (16:36), jams its seven in the top nine and averages 16:51 on the dual meet course to runaway with the boys Watchung Division race.
Nichelle Harris of Rahway (19:34) is the fastest girls of the day while defending county champion Ines Simoes of Roselle Catholic cruises to a 19:54 win the Valley Division title.
New Providence soph. Everett Price uses a spectacular sprint down the final straightaway to catch Tyler Boscia of Roselle Catholic to capture the boys Valley Division race in a personal best 16:50. Roselle Catholic grabs team title.
The Summit girls, despite missing two key runners (Nicola Hallenborg was sick and Katie Watson had a quad injury), still posted top average of the meet with a 21:02.8 as it won the Mountain Division.
In the girls Watchung race, Kathleen Leeper of Scotch Plains-Fanwood finished first in 20:24 ,and Westfield edged Scotch Plains, 30-32.
