Oster rips meet record 15:48.8 to win third straight sectional and lead Verona to title; Ridge sweeps and Vigilante burns an 18:37.5

Highlights
  • Dave Oster of  Verona sets sectional course record with a blistering 15:48.8 in the Group 1 race to defeat Patrick Rono of Lyndhurst (16:08.6) in a battle of unbeatens. Led by Oster, Verona nipped McNair, 53-55.
  • FL finalist Laura Vigilante of Mendham blasts an 18:33.5 to win the girls Group 3 race.
  • Mendham boys repeat in Group 3, 46-51, over heavily favored and illness-ravaged Millburn,. Millburn, led by Tyler Udland's repeat win in 16:25.6, was hit hard by illness this week. Blake Udland, one of the top runners on Millburn, was so sick that his coach, Jeff Kaye, pulled him off the course after two miles.
  • The boys Group 4 race was marred by a big pileup just after the start, which certianly had an impact on the race. Ridge, which had one of its top runner go down, repeated with 65. Westfield, which had four runners hit the ground, was second with 65, and Bridgewater-Raritan was third with 71.
  • Matt McDonald of North Hunterdon ran 16:17.4 to win the boys Group 4 race.
  • Sherif Ali of Cliffside Park (16:54.5) and Cranford captured the boys Group 2 titles.
  • Jackie Madden held off Cara Talty of Bridgewater-Raritan to win in 19:39.3 to 19:40.0 to spark Ridge to its second straight girls Group 4 crown
  • Voorhees, which several key runners missing with illness, won its fourth straight girls Group 3 title by 10 over Morristown.
  • Chatham nipped Bernards by two for the girls Group 2 title and first-year runner Dana Giordano of Bernards won the individual championship in 19:18.0
  • Whippany Park put four runner in the top nine to edge Verona by five for the girls Group 1 crown, and Christina Nicholas of McNair won the individual title in 21:16.1.
