Clayton Parros heads west and sets state mark

By Jim Lambert

June 6, 2009 - Clayton Parros (file phot left by John Nepolitan) of Seton Hall Prep smashed the N.J. state record in the 400-meter run with a blazing 45.71 to finish second at the 34th Southwest Classic at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Parros, who finished just behind Tavaris Tate of Mississippi (45.42), broke the New Jersey high school mark of 46.02 set in 1984 by U.S. Olympian Dennis Mitchell of Edgewood. Parros is now No. 20 on the all-time U.S. list.

Parros and Tate also finished 1-2 at the Nike Indoor Nationals in Boston in March, where Tate won on a lean.
