Saturday
  • Morris Hills (NJ) comes in 2nd in the Championship of America 4 x 800 in a new New Jersey State record of 7:31.60.  Albemarle (Va) won the race in a new National record 7:30.67.  Morris Hills's time is the #2 time in US history.  Farrell (NY) was the final qualifer and finished 8th in 7:53.20.
  • Matthew Huckabee (Timber Creek, NJ) takes the discus with a throw of 182' 11".  Anthony Thomas (Holy Trinity, NY) - 177' 0" and Mike Levine (Commack, NY) - 174' 11" also get medals taking 3rd and 4th.
  • Nepture(NJ) gets 4th (41.82) and Weaver (CT) 5th (42.25) in the Small School 4 x 100 Championship.  Sheepshead Bay (NY) just gets nipped at the line to finish 2nd in the Large School 4 x 100 Championship in 41.93
  • Columbia (NJ) just nips Paramus Catholic (NJ) to win the Tri-State Girls 4 x 100 final.  Columbia ran 47.52 and Paramus Catholic runs 47.61
  • Camden (NJ) gets 2nd in the Phili area girls 4 x 400 in 3:50.24

Friday
  • Nick Vena (Morristown, NJ) sets 6 records with hsi 72' 2-1/2" win in the shot put.  A new national Soph, National Age record, Penn Relays Record, New Jersey Record, Morris County and School record.
  • West Windsor Plainsboro North leads a 2-3-4-5-6-7-8 placing by Metro teams.  Robby Andrews (Manalapan, NJ) brings his team from deep in the field to 3rd with a 4:06.2 1600 meter split
  • Brent Johnson (Ocean City, NJ) gets 4th in the mile with a 4:15.68 clocking and Bobby Andrews (Shoreham Wading River, NY) gets 3rd in the 3000 meters crossing the line in 8:25.40
  • 4 x 800 Heats - Morris Hills (NJ) top qualifier in the 4 x 800 winning heat 2 in 7:47.13.  Lawrenceville School (NJ) wins heat 1 and will be in the final after running 7:49.13.  Washington Twp (NJ) wins the final heat in 7:49.67 and will be on the line for the final Saturday.  Farrell (NY) will also be part of the final.
  • 4 x 100 Heats - Neptune (NJ) runs 42.30 to have the #7 times among the small schools - #1 among the USA small schools and will be in the Small School Saturday at 1:37pm.  Sheepshead Bay (NY) will be in the Large School (Saturday at 1:40pm) final after running 42.24 this morning and will be joined by Weaver (CT) who ran 43.07.
  • Charlotte Pope (New Rochelle, NY) gets 4th in the discus with a throw of 133' 0"
  • Girls 4 x 100 finals  - Paramus Catholic (NJ) gets 6th in the Large School final running 47.74 setting a new Bergen County (NJ) record.  They will get one more chance to run the 4 x 100 at Penn when they line up for the Tri-State Championship where they are the top seed.

  • Paramus Catholic (NJ) makes 4 x 100 Large School final.
  • FIELD EVENTS -   Adrienne Alexander (Bish Loughlin, NY) 3rd in the shot, Shannon Sullivan (IHA, NJ) 3rd in the Jav, Michelle Quimby (Shenendehowa, NY), 3rd in the PV, Ada Unachukwu (Marlboro, NJ) 2nd in the TJ,
  • Southern Regional (NJ) 2nd and South Brunswick (NJ) 4th in the DMR,
  • Shelby Greany (Suffern, NY) 3rd in the 3k leading a 3-4-5-6-7-8-10 placing by Metro runners,
  • Charlene Lipsey (Hempstead, NY) 3rd in the Mile.

Metro Girls qualify 5 teams for girls 4 x 800 Championship

PHILADELPHIA – Metro girls’ teams made quite a splash in the 4x800-meter relay, with five squads qualifying for the 12-team Championship of America race, tomorrow at 1 p.m., during the first day of action here at the 115th Penn Relays.  Read Rich's full report here

PHILADELPHIA - Ada Unachukwu came up a little short in her atttempt to win her second straight triple jump title. But she sure did come up big again.  Unachukwu, a senior at Marlboro who won the triple jump last year with a 38-11 ¾, hopped and skipped and jumped more than a foot further than that yesterday when she landed in the sand 40-0 to clinch second place as the 115th Penn Relays began yesterday in front of 24,315 fans at breezy Franklin Field.
