 Snow Storm could not stop those chasing a dream and more US #1's

With a guaranteed starting position in the Millrose Games on the line for the winner of the mile and a number of great match-ups were almost whipped out by a snow storm bearing down on the New York area.  Some teams did have to pass up the drive to the Armory Track and Field Center in New York City, but there was enough talent for any fan to get their fill.  After 3 hours of the meet and only 3 events completed it was time to turn up the heat and begin the invitational portion of the day.  The anticipation of the mile races, where the winner is guaranteed a place on the starting line of the Millrose Games, had been building for days and the two races did not disappoint.  The boys winner was somebody that none of the local experts had selected as a possible winner and the girls race featured a showdown between cross country state champions for New York and New Jersey.  HIGHLIGHTS

  • Bound for Madison Square Garden – Marco Bertolotti (Port Washington, NY) – 4:15.14 – and Emily Lipari (Roslyn, NY) – 4:54.40 a US#1 – take the Invitational Miles to punch their tickets to the starting lines of the Millrose Games Invitational Mile.
  • While fans were still talking about the mile races Brianna Welsh (North Shore, NY) cruised to a new US #1 in the 3000 with a 10:03.74 win
  • Clayton Parros (Seton Hall Prep, NJ) takes the lead from the gun in the Invitational 400 to win in the #2 time in the USA  47.78  
  • Arch Bishop Carroll (Washington DC) comes north and almost gets the national lead in taking the 4 x 200 final in 1:29.84  
  •  Cardozo (NY) girls takes the girls 4 x 200 final in 1:40.38 a new  US #1.  Chamique Francis (Cardozo, NY) right before she runs the anchor of the 4 x 200 takes the Invitational 400 in   55.48 a new   US#1
  • After a long delay Dominque Booker (Immaculate Conception, NJ) takes the 55m dash final in 7.09  just .01 shy of her US #1 time
  • National 55m hurdle leader Janice Jackson (Medgar Evers, NY) tied her US #1 time with a 8.01 win just nipping out Latisha Philson (Cardozo, NY) 8.02
  • Darryl Bradshaw (Sheepshead Bay, NY) continued to dominate the boys hurdles taking the finel in 7.51
  • A delay in the start did not seem to affect Berfrantz Charles (North Babylon) in claiming gold in the 55 dash with a 6.56 clocking just ahead of Ayo Isijola’s (Sheepshead Bay, NY) 6.57
  • After a busy night at the Section One Coaches Invite where she won 3 events, Jenn Clayton (Suffern, NY) comes back to win the long jump with a leap of 18 ‘ 8.5 for the win.
  • Wesley Lavong (Methacton, PA) remained undefeated at the Armory taking the shot with a toss 58’ 10”
  •  Shanae Bailey (Swenson, Pa) 24.30 and John Thomas (Sheepshead Bay, NY). 21.71 blaze 1 lap.
  • Morris Hills (NJ) leads 7 other teams under 8:00 with a new USA #1 in the 4 x 800 running 7:51.07 - Splits of 1:57.2 - 2:00.2 - 1:58.2 - 1:55.2
