Top boys’ junior mile on tap for Reebok Boston Indoor Games

BOSTON (Jan. 20) – A diverse group of prep talent from across the country and Canada will line-up in Boston for the Boys’ Junior Invitational Mile at the 2009 Reebok Boston Indoor Games, organizers announced today.  The field includes Andrew Springer (Westerly HS/Westerly, RI) this season’s fastest prep miler at 4.10.61; Alaska’s Trevor Dunbar (Kodiak HS/Kodiak, AK) who was the 2008 Footlocker Cross Country Championship runner-up and Brett Johnson (Ocean City HS/Ocean City, NJ), who is the nation’s fastest returning miler from 2008.

Since the Reebok Boston Indoor Games began in 1996, more than 100 Olympic and World Championship medalists have competed in the event, which has also played host to six World and 29 National Records. The Boys’ Junior Invitational Mile, which began in 2005, has quickly become one of the most prestigious events of its kind. In 2008, the boys’ mile produced the fastest 2008 indoor time in the country (4:08.77) as well as six of the top ten best times in the nation.

The above athletes will be joined by Reed Conner (The Woodlands HS/The Woodlands, TX), who was the 2008 NTN Cross Country Individual Champion; Omar Abdi (Charlestown HS/Charlestown, MA), the 2008 Massachusetts State Indoor and Outdoor Mile Champion;  and Jeremy Rae (Lakeshore Catholic HS/Fort Erie, Ontario) the 2008 Canadian Youth Champion at both 800m and 1500m.

Challenging them will be Mac Fleet (University City HS/San Diego, CA), 2008 California State Runner-up at 1600m in 2008; Chris “CJ” Brown (Carroll Senior HS/Southlake, TX); Patrick McGregor (Hoover HS/Hoover, AL); Zachary Ornelas (Vista Ridge HS/Cedar Park, TX), Collin Jarvis (Rancho Buena Vista HS/Vista, CA); and Drew Butler (The Woodlands HS/The Woodlands, TX).

The field for the Girls’ Junior Invitational Mile will be released soon.

The 14th-annual Reebok Boston Indoor Games, the second stop in USA Track & Field’s Visa Championship Series, begins at 5:00 p.m. on Feb. 7 at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at Roxbury Community College, 1350 Tremont St. Information is now available on-line at www.BostonIndoorGames.com, and tickets are available on-line or by calling 1-877-TIX-TRAC.
