2008-2009 Indoor Season
1/26-2/1 Notables
  • Different track sizes on the indoor circuit create headaches for statisticians, but there's no doubt that Track EC (New Bern HS, NC) did something special again this weekend.  In the history of prep 4x400s, only a 3:11.7h by Dallas Lincoln from 1970 is faster than the 3:13.24 the TEC quartet ran Friday.  Both, however, were on oversized (over 200m) tracks.  The all-time best on 200m track is 3:13.34 by Muir CA in 1996.
  • With another oversized mark, 24.00 for 200m at U-W in Seattle, Ashton Purvis CA became a double leader in the sprints.  Meanwhile, Devon Smith locked down the short sprints with his 6.65 at Millrose
  • The Millrose Games also gave two relay teams a rare chance to settle a new "rivalry" born of a #1 battle the previous weekend.  Albemarle VA and Morris Hills NJ had taken turns taking the boys 4x8 lead the previous weekend, then got to run mano-a-mano in the Garden.  No new leader was set on the tight track, but Albemarle won decisively.
  • Terrance Livingston ran his 4th #1 of the season in 3 different events last weekend, resetting his 600 leader.  He hasn't been pushed much this winter, but that should change Saturday as 500m #1-#2 Anthony and Andrew Hendrix will lock up with the NY sensation over 600m at the New Balance Collegiate Games.
  • Virginia girls have been dominating the horizontal jumps so far.  Kamirah Shepherd became the 2nd LJ leader of the season from that state with the year's first 20-footer, giving her the lead in both the LJ and TJ.  VA also holds the next two spots on the LJ list - and #3 Tynita Butts is also co-leader in the HJ.
