Dyestat IL Class AA Girls State Meet Preview

2009 Girls 2A State Meet Preview

Sectional Recap: It certainly was an interesting week. There were definitely some surprises at last Saturdays’ Sectional Meets.  Not to take anything from anybody but, I can only assume that some teams were dealing with some sickness issues. Woodstock wins the Belvidere Sectional on the strength of the Beattie sisters 1-2 finish but if they want a trophy their 3-5 runners will definitely need to move up. This week’s Springfield battle goes to Springfield Sacred Heart at the Decatur MacArthur Sectional. Yorkville ran a solid race at the East Peoria Sectional to come up on top. While Chicago (University) wins the Chicago (Jones) Sectional. This sectional race had a mere 26 point spread between the top 5 teams

State Preview:
To me the state title will go to either Springfield Sacred Heart or Springfield HS. Both teams have a very solid front 4 and the title should go to the team whose #5 has the best race (I know…… this is obvious) Trying to get a read after the front two has been a bit difficult this week, after all some of the sectional performances were a bit off.  It is hard to look past Woodstock’s 1-2 punch (who will probably score 3-5 points for their team. But, their 3,4,5 are fairly far back (41st, 49th , 53rd at sectionals) they can be in the trophy hunt if the gap tightens up. Peoria Notre Dame has been up at the top of the rankings all season long. If Jessie Wynn is healthy, they will also be battling for a trophy.  Same thing can be said for a team like East Peoria. I really like the race Yorkville put together at their sectional. With Hester and Bell up front they could be a threat. Of course you also can’t count out Crystal Lake Central; they return a solid team with a ton of experience and a descent pack. Individually Kayla and Elise Beattie (Woodstock) look like a tough duo to beat. But, Margo Richardson (Mt Vernon) will be there running with them step by step. Monica Hahn (Lincoln-way West), Erin Poss (Antioch), Kristen Levi (Belvidere North), Jessie Wynn (PND), Madz Negro (Springfield Sacred Heart), and Kirby Hale (Springfield HS) should all be in that lead group as well.
It looks like we are finally going to catch a break with the weather. I am excited to see how things play out
Best of luck to all competitors!
