Team Analysis

1. Elmhurst York - The Dukes definitely made a statement in their first major invite of 2008, winning the Palatine Invite. Steve Sulkin and Jordan Herbert are a powerful 1-2 punch that other squads will have trouble matching. Juniors Andrew Smith and this year's surprise, Kush Sangha are within 30 seconds. Matt Schacht is usually with Smith, but stepped in a pothole at the beginning of the race and finished in 76th place. With Schacht in there, the Dukes would have a 31 second split...which would be tough to beat. Add David Way and Adam Cecil, who is finally recovering from an ankle injury, along with Brian Pollistrani, Jack Driggs, and Nick Gornick into the mix, and the Dukes will have a number of men for Coach Joe Newton to choose from.

2. Geneva - The Vikings move up one spot after a great performance at Sterling on Saturday. Andrew Nelson ran a great time in 14:59 to win. Between Greg Adelman, Kevin Sparks, Kevin McDowell, and Chris Huggins, Geneva has some interchangable parts in their top 5. Drew Hickey stepped up in the top 7 and could add some much needed depth. The split needs to close between Nelson and the pack...30 seconds may be too much.

3. Neuqua Valley - The Wildcats traveled into Indiana and came back with the Culver Academies Invitational Championship, almost doubling the score of the 2nd place team Carmel, the #1 team in Indiana. Danny Pawola ran a great race along with Junior Aaron Beattie. A 45 second between 1-5 is tough. Neuqua is ready for a big challenge next weekend at the Lockport Invite.

4. Naperville North - Have not run a race since the Lanphier Invite on September 13, so it is hard to gage this team. We will find out more about the Huskies on Saturday at Lockport.

5. Lyons Township - A strong performance by the Lions at the Palatine Invite despite the fact they did not run with their regular line up. Mike Janusek, Jack Hostettler, and Sam Tefler ran within 7 seconds of each other. Alex Lyons, the normal #3 man, was sick before Peoria Notre Dame, and is just coming back into form. LT had a 37 second split on Saturday, but will need to move their front pack up a little.

6. Palatine - The Pirates ran a good, but not great race, at their own invite. Chano Bernardo was up front again with an 8th place finish. Alec Bollman was 18 seconds behind him. A 54 second 1-5 split may be a concern for Coach Chris Quick, but we have not seen the best race from Palatine.

7. St. Charles North - A team to keep an eye on. The North Stars finally ran with a healthy 7 and responded with a 4th place finish at the Palatine Invite. Max Clink looked good and strong finishing in 11th. A key for North is Steven Miller, who ran right with Todd Vankerkhoff. 49 second split on 1-5.

8. Lake Forest - The Scouts looked to be healthy after an off week at the Libertyville Invite on September 20. This week, 5th place at the Palatine Invite. Kyle Brehm continues to be the #1 man for Coach Nathan Sweet. Top squad so far in the North suburban Conference.

9. Oak Park Fenwick - The Friars performances keep improving as evident by a 2nd place finish at the Loyola Lakefront Invite.

10. Prospect - Coach Mike Stokes kept most of his top runners out of the Gummerson Invite at Oak Park last Saturday. We should see the Knights at full strength on Saturday at the Peoria Central Invite.

11. Carpentersville-Dundee Crown - Not the best race of the year for the Chargers, but a learning experience none the less. Crown was only 5 points away from Lake Forest at Palatine. Anthony Manfrin ran a solid race running 14:26 for a 3rd place finish.

12. Orland Park Sandburg - Sandburg drops in the ratings with an 8th place finish, but without one of their regular top 5 runners. Zach Dahleen led the charge for Sandburg running 14:32 for 5th place.

13. Moline - The Maroons continue to be the best team in western Illinois. Moline dominated the Rock Island Invite with 29 points. Jonathan Smith led the Maroons with an individual win in 15:43 on a hilly Camden Park course.

14. Batavia - off.

15. Edwardsville - A team on the move. The Tigers captured the East Peoria Invite with 47 points. Devon Dudding has been consistent all season as their #1 man. 29 second split for their top 5, we will see how they match up on Saturday at Peoria.

16. Loyola Academy - A strong first three runners in Nico Composto, Jack seeburg, and Mark Donohue, the Rambers finished 3rd just behind Fenwick at the Lakefornt Invitational. Need to get their 4-5 runners closer to the front pack.

17. Lincoln-Way Central - Even without Freshman Lucas Verzbikas, the Knights rolled on Saturday at the Bartlett Invitational with 33 points.

18. Cary-Grove - The Trojans finally ran with their top 7 intact and responded with a 7th place finish at Palatine. 32 second split on 1-5, Phillip Fairleigh will be closer to the front in future races.

19. Hoffman Estates Conant - 4th place finish at the Lakefront Invite. Jeff Thode finished 2nd for Conant.

20. Maine South - Another squad that keeps getting better week by week, South finished 9th at Palatine. A 56 second 1-5 split can be improved on.

21. Wheaton-Warrenville South - Low keyed triangular victory at Wheaton North, back into major invites this week at Crete Monee.

22. Lake Zurich - An off race this week after a strong run at Peoria finishing 11th at Palatine. Gerardo Perez is proving he is an all-state caliber runner with a top 10 finish at Palatine and at Peoria Notre Dame.

23. O'Fallon. - off.

24. Rockton Hononegah - Kevin Jacobs leads this team to a 10th place finish at Palatine.

25. Hinsdale Central - The Red Devils are new to the ratings, but are looking strong with a tough race against York on Thursday and Invite wins so far this season at Joliet and Oak Park.
