Week Analysis:

1 Elmhurst York : off

2 Naperville North:
looked strong in running the first five places on September 3 in a quad including then #7 Waubonsie Valley. Kyle Gibson led the sweep running 15:13 for 3 miles on a excessively muggy day.The Huskies ran a 57 second split on their first five. Sophomore Charlie McKeown looked good in his first Cross Country Race. North will split their squad this week running at both the Lake Park Invite and the Springfield Lanphier Invite.

3 Naperville Neuqua Valley: ran 7 in the first 15 spots in winning the Hornet-Red Devil Invite at KLM Park. Danny Pawola won the individual race on a soggy course in 15:08. Aaron Beattie was 17 seconds back. The Wilcats were impressive with their next 7 runners within 20 seconds of each other. Luke Verbus ran an impressive race as the 3rd man. A big challenge awaits Neuqua as they run the Peoria Woodruff Invite this weekend.

4 LaGrange Lyons Township: another squad that stamped itself as a title contender this past weekend dominating their own invitational. Mike Janusek finished 3rd running  15:17 with Junior Jack Hostetler right behind him. Michael Danner's squad ran a 25 second 1-5 split, even with Junior Robbie Keeler running 28th and 6th man. The Lions will compete this weekend in the Reavis Invite.

5 Geneva: Impressive does not describe how Geneva ran last weekend. The Vikings dominated the Leavey Invite winning a packed field with only 38 points and a 24 second split. Andrew Nelson led the way with a 2nd place finish, though he was in contention until the last 1/2 mile. Senior Chris Huggins, in his first cross country race, was their 4th man and will be a key to their success. Geneva is off to Peoria this weekend to face Neuqua Valley.

6. Carpentersville-Dundee Crown: looked strong in winning 2 invites this week. Sophomore Anthony Manfrin looked strong in winning both the Elgin Classic on September 2 and the Crystal Lake South Invite last Saturday. The Chargers 2-5 split was 32 seconds last Saturday, but will need to get a little closer to Manfrin for success. Another squad running at Peoria Woodruff this weekend.

7. Palatine: The Pirates had a successful week, so to speak. On Tuesday, they defeated then #9 Prospect at Deer Grove East. Saturday, they placed 2nd to a strong Neuqua Valley team. Chano Bernardo lived up to his billing by placing 5th with Junior Alec Bollman close behind. Senior Tom Laskowske ran a fantastic race as the third man, this coming 5 weeks after Hernia surgery. 57 split on 5 which will need to come down. No big meets this weekend, but they have a dual against #23 Schaumburg on tap.

8. Orland Park Sandburg: Took 2nd in the Lions Pride Invite at Lyons Township. Zach Dahleen looked good, running 15:14 for 4.8 k in muddy conditions. Jack O' Malley had 3 runners in the first 10, but their 4-5 runners were too far back running an 81 second 1-5 split. Will run at the Reavis Invite this weekend.

9. New Lenox Lincoln-Way Central: A star was born at Lyons in Lukas Verzbicas, who won the individual title in setting a course record. The Knights were only 3 points behind #8 Sandburg. There was a 70 gap between Verzbicas and #2 man Sophomore Kyle Counter. Their 42 second split is a concern between the next 4. At Peoria Woodruff on Saturday.

10. Lake Forest: Looked tough in smashing the competition at the Lake County Invite last Wednesday on their home course. On Saturday, the Scouts placed 2nd behind Geneva at the Leavey Invite. Kyle Brehm paced his squad with an 8 place finish. 37 second split on 5...will be at Wauconda on Saturday.

11. St. Charles North: Placed 3rd at Leavey despite #1 runner Max Clink dropping out half way through the race suffering a bout of the flu. Ran a 65 second split without Clink. Will be out to redeem itself at Peoria this weekend.

12. Mt. Prospect (Prospect): Lost in a dual meet against Palatine last week. Chris Hayek went out after Chano Bernardo of Palatien but faded at the end. The first major invite that the Knights will run in will be the Libertyville Invite on September 20.

13. Oak Park Fenwick: Looked tough winning the Early Bird Invite at Fenton. The Friars ran 3 in the first 5 led by Tom Laser and Martin Grady. Fenwick will be at the Gordon Tech Invite this Saturday.

14. Hoffman Estates Conant: Ended up 5th at Lyons Township without star Jeffrey Thode, who dropped out of the race at 2 miles. With him, would have placed 4th. Will be at Peoria this Saturday, but reportedly without Thode or Senior Tyler Fuchs, who will be taking ACT's.

15. Moline: Enter this weeks rankings after impressive performances this week in a quad at Rock Island and then at the Leavey Invite placing 4th. Senior Jonathan Smith is the real deal placing 5th. The Maroons will have to improve on the 40 second gap between 4 and 5. At Peoria this weekend.

16. Batavia: A squad who just missed being ranked in the Pre-Season, they pop in to the rankings with a strong performance at the Leavey Invite. Their first 4 looked strong finishing within 36 seconds of each other, but have a 38 second gap until their fifth man.

17. Wheaton-Warrenville South: Ran a smooth race placing 3rd at Hinsdale. Junior Aaron Peck looked good placing 4th in 15:33. They have a 64 second split on Peck. At Wauconda on Saturday.

18. Rockton Hononegah: Ran a good race on Saturday placing 6th at the Leavey Invitational despite the fact that Matt Brinkmeier, usually with 3rd place Kevin Jacobs finished
31st. Could have a tough pack come state series time. At Peoria on Saturday.

19. Hoffman Estates: Ran a distant 2nd to #13 Fenwick at Fenton. Matt Perez led the way with a 6th place finish. 61 second split on Perez is good news for Matthew Dowd. Off this weekend.

20. Edwardsville: Looked extremely strong at downstate Granite City last Saturday winning the invite over conference foe and #25 O'Fallon. Ran a tight pack off of Devon Dudding, 16 seconds on 5. Will see if the Tigers are the real deal at their own inviite on Wednesday then at Peoria on Saturday.

21. Aurora Waubonsie Valley: suffered the biggest drop in the ratings this week, placing 7th at the Leavey Invite without Michael Lorenz. A young squad that will need Ryan Shea to be close to Emmett Lorenz. At Peoria this Saturday.

22. Cary-Grove: Placed 4th at Crystal Lake South, holding out their top 3 including Phil Fairleigh. At Wauconda this weekend.

23. Schaumburg: off...ready to challenge Naperville North this weekend at Lake Park.

24. Minooka: led by Senior Josh Keck's 9th place finish, the Indians placed 4th at Hinsdale. The surprise for Minooka was Freshman Kyle Smith, who was their 2nd man. A good 24 split between 2-5. At Joliet this Saturday.

25. O'Fallon: Looked good in placing 2nd to #20 Edwardsville at Granite City. Have a strong 1-2 punch in Sophomore Michael Scolarici, who finished 2nd by 3 seconds to Granite City's Aaron Werths, and Senior Matt Coon. Will look for redemption this weekend at Peoria.
