INDOOR TRACK MEET

Cadet Field House

 

MEET INFORMATION

ELIGIBILITY: Only athletes enrolled in high school are eligible. Individuals or groups may enter as high school or youth track clubs or as unattached individuals. (NOTE: Please comply with CHSAA or your state federation guidelines regarding use of school uniform, equipment, etc.).

SUPERVISION: Each athlete entered in the meet must have a coach, parent or adult sponsor present at the meet. Please note on the entry form the person who will be responsible for your athlete or group of athletes.

RULES: National High School Federation rules will be enforced. Fully automatic timing by Omega Hawkeye will be used for all races. Weigh-in’s will be held for the shot put.

DIRECTIONS: Take I-25 north from Colorado Springs or south from the Denver metropolitan area; exit at North entrance to Air Force Academy (exit 156); campus maps are available at the Guard Station or follow the signs to Cadet Field House.

PARKING: Park in the lot east of Cadet Field House (2nd right after turning onto Field House Drive).

PACKETS: Enter the Cadet Field House through the doors midway down the east side of the building. Information packets will be available in the vestibule at this entrance only from 7:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Packets will include: (1) Final Instructions; (2) facility layout diagram; (3) start lists; and (4) competitor numbers with t-shirt coupon.

 

FACILITY: The indoor track at the Cadet Field House is a 268m (6 laps to a mile) polyurethane surface. There are 8 lanes on the straightaway and 6 lanes on the oval.

The runways for the long jump, triple jump and pole vault are also polyurethane, and the approach for the high jump is synthetic rubber. �" or shorter spikes will be permitted. Spikes will be checked and those longer than � will not be allowed.

The throwing ring is wood, and landing pits for the high jump and pole vault are the largest and safest made in the world.

T-SHIRTS: Every participant will receive a commemorative US West Dex High School Invitational Indoor Track Meet t-shirt by presenting their coupon at the tables on the spectator level of the Field House.

AWARDS: Distinctive US West Dex awards will be presented to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th place finishers in both boys’ and girls’ divisions after the final results have been compiled from the flights and sections.

COACHES’ HOSPITALITY: High school and club coaches are invited to the coaches’ office on the track level from 7:00 a.m. until the first track event at 9:00 a.m. for coffee and donuts.

 

 

ENTRY PROCEDURE

PROCEDURE: Use the enclosed entry forms, even if you are entering as few as a single athlete. Make sure to enter only boys on the Boys’ Entry Form, and girls on the Girls’ Entry Form. If necessary, feel free to photocopy the forms for additional space. Use 1997 outdoor seasonal bests for seeding purposes. Times and marks may be verified. Keep a copy of your entry form and bring it to the competition for verification purposes.

DEADLINE: All entries must be postmarked by Friday, February 5, or received by Tuesday, February 9. Entries will not be taken by phone or fax, except under special circumstances. Late entries will not be accepted.

ENTRY FEE: Please use the entry form to figure your entry fees. Cost is a base fee of $5.00 per athlete plus $3.00 per event. There is no entry fee for relay teams. Make checks payable to AFAAA. Checks not made out to AFAAA will not be accepted. Absolutely no refunds will be given.

ENTRY CONFIRMATION: You may call the track coaches’ office on Thursday, February 11, after 3:00 p.m. or on Friday, February 12 prior to 3:00 p.m. to confirm the placement of your athletes into flights and sections. The phone number is (719) 333-2173.

 

 

 

EVENT INSTRUCTIONS

The 60m dash and 60m hurdles events will have qualifying rounds during the morning session, with the eight fastest times qualifying for the final in the afternoon. Please instruct your athletes that winning a qualifying heat does not ensure qualification for the final.

 

The 200m dash, 400m dash, 800m run, mile run and 3000m run will be staged in sections, i.e., there will be no finals. Placement into sections will be based on entry marks (‘98 outdoor or prior ’99 indoor seasonal bests) and the order of sections will be from slowest to fastest. Results will be compiled from the combined sections to determine award-winners.

The boys’ high jump will have a starting height of 5’0" and will be raised in 2" increments.

The girls’ high jump will have a starting height of 4’0" and will be raised in 2" increments.

For the 3rd year, there will be a girls’ pole vault competition. the starting height will be 6’0" and the bar will be raised in 6" increments. Please only enter girls with pole vaulting experience, however limited, and the ability to clear the starting height. The boys’ pole vault will be split into 2 sections. Your vaulters may choose to compete in either of the 2 sections, but not both. The unseeded section (9:00 a.m.) will have a starting height of 10’0", and the bar will be raised in 6" increments. The seeded section (2:00 p.m.) will have a starting height of 12’0", and the bar will be raised in 4" increments. Poles will not be provided.

The long jump, triple jump and shot put will be staged in flights of 8-12 competitors.

Each competitor will receive 4 jumps or throws. There will be no finals. Placement into flights will be based on entry marks (‘98 outdoor or prior ’99 indoor seasonal bests) and the order of flights will be from least to furthest. Shots will not be provided.

 

 

 

 

US WEST COLLEGIATE MEET ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 12

 

On Friday, February 6, the Air Force Academy will be hosting the US WEST collegiate indoor track meet with teams from Air Force Academy, Auburn, Clemson, Colorado, CSU, Illinois, LSU, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA and Washington State. There will also be several open competitors including world champion shot putter, John Godina and top pole vaulter, Pat Manson. Track and field events begin at 5:00 p.m. There will be an admission charge.
