State HS ChampionshipsTexasFrom: "Phil Murray" <[email protected]> Subject: t-and-f: Texas State High School Results (long) Date: Sat, 15 Nov 1997 21:05:05 -0600 Here are the results of today's (November 15) Texas State High School Championships from the Texas Track & Field website. Phil Murray [email protected] --------------------------------------------------- "Texas Track & Field" website http://host.fptoday.com/ttf/ --------------------------------------------------- Conditions: 35-40 degrees, light rain off and on during the morning. Very muddy course (5000m for boys and 3200m for girls). 5A Girls Kingwood obliterated the field to start the meet off with a bang led by individual winner Erin McEntee. The Woodlands ran strong to take second and Houston Memorial surprised in third as the Flower Mound Marcus charge never materialized. Individuals: 1, Erin McEntee (Kingwood) 11:34; 2, Jodie Hughes (The Woodlands) 11:37; 3, Melissa Guilli (Klein) 11:41; 4, Renne Metivier (Marcus) 11:45; 5, Erin Dixon (Kingwood) 11:45; 6, Whitney McAlpine (Kingwood) 11:47; 7, Sarah Doyle (Houston Lamar) 11:48; 8, Londa Bevins (Mesquite) 11:51; 9, Linsey Lawless (Georgetown) 11:52; 10, Lindsay Rinnan (Kingwood) 11:57 Teams:1, Kingwood, 31; 2, The Woodlands, 99; 3, Houston Memorial, 111; 4, Klein, 116; 5, Amarillo, 124; 6, Georgetown, 143; 7, Marcus, 144; 8, New Braunfels, 144; 9, La Porte, 252; 10, Lubbock Coronado, 252; 11, San Antonio MacArthur, 266; 12, Corpus Christi Carroll, 287 5A Boys This was one I really looked forward to all week and it turned out to be a good one. After watching The Woodlands' Colin Campbell win the Region II duel last week, I couldn't wait to see him run against the state's best. And the state's best today was Kingwood's Jeff Wood who really looked great when it counted. Campbell ran strong, too, in holding off Georgetown's Jonathan Fawcett for second. Coach Zoe Simpson's Kingwood team took the measure of a tough Woodlands' team. Individuals: 1, Jeff Wood (Kingwood) 15:58; 2, Colin Campbell (The Woodlands) 16:05; 3, Jonathan Fawcett (Georgetown) 16:07; 4, Jeff Berres (Round Rock Westwood) 16:12; 5, Mike Sovinsky (Marcus) 16:13; 6, Michael Baird (Temple) 16:14; 7, Maurice Perez (San Antonio Jefferson) 16:19; 8, Chris Emme (The Woodlands) 16:20; 9, Mark Contreres (Laredo Alexander) 16:20; 10, Cameron Keel (Klein Oak) 16:23 Teams: 1, Kingwood, 36; 2, The Woodlands, 55; 3, Flower Mound Marcus, 77; 4, Houston MacArthur, 142; 5, Klein, 145; 6, Pharr PSJA North, 174; 7, Cypress-Fairbanks, 205; 8, Eagle Pass, 208; 9, LaJoya, 218; 10, Crowley, 231; 11, El Paso Austin, 233; 12, Deer Park, 269 4A Girls This, too, was a fun one to watch as Canyon's Jennifer Mirable pulled away int he last 1000m to get her state championship. Carroll Jessa Vacek (I believe she's a freshman!) steadily moved up in the last half mile and used a strong kick to take the runner-up spot. The Highland Park girls didn't start coming in until 9th place, but still won easily with only 51 points.
