2002 Nike Athletes of the Year

the dominant high school track and field athletes
of the 2001-2002 school year

Kelly Willie

2002, Sterling Houston TX

Already the undisputed US#1 in the 400, Kelly Willie came to AOC Raleigh with an improbable goal: beat Brendan Christian in the 100 and 200 to give himself a shot at Track and Field News' Athlete of the Year award. "I figured they give so much credit to the 100 and 200 that I had to beat Brendan to have a chance," Willie said. And he pulled it off, winning both short sprints.
