Dominance is the only word to describe Amber Trotter's cross country season. From her tearful return from anorexia at the Great Race of the Great Bay in San Francisco September 8 to the Foot Locker national finals at Disney World 3 months later, the story unfolds with metronomic regularity. League meet or national championship -- makes no difference. Trotter goes out the first mile in 5:05, no one goes with her, Trotter never comes back to the field, Trotter wins as she pleases. The margins are staggering, as are the records. Mt. SAC: winning margin 1:47, course record by 22 seconds. California State Meet: winning margin 45 seconds. Foot Locker West Regional: winning margin 43 seconds. Foot Locker national finals: winning margin 40 seconds, course record by 30 seconds. Everyone wondered what Trotter would do on the track, but after running a 10:24.30 2-mile in a local meet in March (good for US#4 for the season), Amber was sidelined by injury. Her next race will be for Middlebury College, last year's Division III cross country national champion.
