Erika Odlaug's 17th place finish in the World Cross Country Championships
in Dublin, Ireland
was the best by an American junior woman in that meet in 10 years, which
merits selection as Nike AOY in itself. Like most high school members
of the USA junior team, training for the international effort through
the middle of the school year left her depleted for outdoor. Because of
this and other reasons, the highly ancicipated dream 2-mile of 2002 --
Allison Tubbs, Erika Odlaug, Molly Huddle, Natasha Roetter, and Megan
Kaltenbach -- never happened. Huddle was left to break the high school
2-mile record alone, and the 10-minute barrier stood. Erika has joined
the University of Colorado, along with the Zeigle twins of Utah.
