Bobby Lockhart had the most strenuous year of any high school runner. He was the only one of six high school runners on Team USA at the World Cross Country championships in March who came back from Ireland to have a good outdoor season. And Lockhart finally shook his runner-up syndrome in big meets. The Foot Locker cross country national finals in December marked the third big national race where Lockhart was caught at the wire (Nike Indoor and Millrose Games miles the year before). So, when Bobby hit the finish line of this year's Nike Indoor Classic a winner, he raised his arms with uncharacteristic emotion, and his mother, Cookie Robb, said, "Finally." In June, Lockhart changed his style and became the kicker, surprising Chris Solinsky with a big surge in the last 300 meters to win the 2-Mile at AOC Raleigh. Lockhart wins at Nike Indoor
