Willie Hordge ended his season with a brilliant flourish while piling up frequent flier miles. After missing the Texas 4A 100-meter title to Brendan Christian 10.15 to 10.16 +2.5, Hordge went to Albuquerque and won the 100 over Kelly Willie and Jonathan Wade in the Great Southwest Classic, with a 10.21 +2.0 clocking. Then Hordge continued west to Palo Alto and ran a virtual dead-heat in the 100 with college freshman Rashaad Allen, both timed in 10.39 -0.2 with Finish Lynx giving the razor's edge to Allen. That got Hordge on Team USA for the World Junior Championships in Jamaica in July. At Kingston, Hordge got third (10.36 -0.6) behind the great Trinidad and Tobago duo of Darrel Brown and Marc Burns. But that was just a warmup for the 4x100 relay on closing night. Behind Hordge's blazing anchor, the USA squad set a new world junior record of 38.92. Amazingly, that was just one of five sub-40 second 4x100 races that Hordge anchored in July.
