Kerron Clement was a double gold hurdler in the Texas 5A state meet, and then went off looking for bigger game. He found it at Raleigh, where he won the 110 hurdles, and at Miami, where he beat Kenneth Ferguson in the USATF Junior Olympics 400 meter hurdles days after Ferguson set a new US high school record of 49.38 at the World Junior Championships in Jamaica. Clement's winning time of 49.77 in Miami was the second fastest ever in US high school track.
