Michelle Carter

2003, Red Oak TX

Michelle Carter's coach and father Michael Carter, later to become a 3-time Pro Bowl nose tackle for the San Francisco 49rs, set the boys HS shot put record at an incredible 81-3.5 at the Golden West Invitational in 1979. Michelle came to this year's Golden West intent on bringing the girls record into the family as well. She had come within 5 inches of the record in the Texas 4A state meet with her 53-3.75 toss, making her the third best HS girl ever. In Sacramento, Michelle was over 50 feet in five of her six throws, but 53-0 was her best for the day. So the scoreboard for her junior year ended with the five best winning marks in the country this year. The lowest of the five, 51-10.75, would have made her the 8th best girl shot putter ever in the US. And she has another year to get that record.
