Lindsay Ferguson's headed to Notre Dame, Kipling Hill to Columbia, Ashley Campbell to either Maryland or Rhode Island.
Count on these three Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Kinetic Track Club distance
stars continuing to excel on the intercollegiate level in future years.
Then again, sophomore teammate Hannah Davidson has a whole lot more high
school running to do.
This powerful foursome kept Saratoga/Kinetic atop the NIN champion's
chart for a fourth consecutive year with yet another overwhelming triumph Saturday.
Hill opened with a 5:11. Campbell ran 5:19, Davidson 5:10, and Ferguson
anchored in 4:57 for a 20:40.85 team win.
Each of them had blue lightning bolts inked onto their right shoulders.
"Just another of our traditions," said Ferguson.
This was the slowest of Saratoga/Kinetic's four NIN victories (the 2005
team ran a national-record 19:59.4, the 2004 club hit 20:08.72, the 2003 team
did 20:24.27) but one of the most decisive.
A distant lapped-and-more second in 21:38.25 was Midlothian of Virginia
with Blacksburg, another Virginian entry, third in 21:51.09.
"We take a whole lot of pride in this event," said co-coach Linda Kranick.
"This is a quality meet and the people running are quality people. Anywhere
they put on a meet, we'll be there."
For Davidson and Ferguson, there was extra distance to run as they sped
around lapped competitors.
"In a way, though, that was good, because there were always runners ahead
of us, people to go after," said Ferguson, who has 4:52 credentials.
She can hardly wait to start college.
"Notre Dame's such a great place," she said. "Good academics, good
athletics, good track program, its got everything for me."
