THIS WEEK AT THE
NEW BALANCE TRACK & FIELD CENTER AT THE ARMORY

High School Kickoff Weekend at The Armory was a huge success with more than 10,000 athletes competing in three outstanding meets on Friday and Saturday.

The Public Schools Athletic League "Night of the Sprints" opened the events on Friday. This was followed by the 56th Catholic High School Athletic Association Relay Carnival and the Section 1 Kickoff on Saturday.

*More than 6,000 athletes will compete in the 52nd Bishop Loughlin Games on Saturday and Sunday. They will represent approximately 240 high schools, breaking the meet record. They come from six states and will include most of the top athletes from New York and surrounding states.

*There were some excellent results in the three meets. In addition, the new Weight Throw Cage was inaugurated with both varsity and freshman competitions at the Pubic School Athletic League meet and a pre-meet clinic.

*At the CHSAA Relays, Meet Records were set in two events. In the Girls 55 Meter Hurdles, Saleena Abdul-Rasheed of Bishop Loughlin set the meet mark at 8.1, breaking her own record of 8.2 set at this meet last year. In the Girls Pole Vault, Rebecca Power of Archbishop Molloy leaped 10-0, crushing the mark of 7-6 set by Keiko Akashi of Archbishop Molloy last year.

*Lynne Lane of New Rochelle set the Section 1 record in the 300 Meter Dash, clocking 39.4 at the Section 1 Kickoff Saturday evening. She broke the record set by Sherry Murphy of Spring Valley at 39.8 in 1988. Rachel Cassata of Somers tied her own Westchester County mark in the Pole Vault when she cleared 10-6 after nearly no heighting at 9-6. This meet marked the first time New Rochelle and Somers have seen each other this season. Last year, Somers beat New Rochelle for the County Championship, ending New Rochelle's streak of 17 straight County titles.

*The individual 55 Meters, 55 Meter Hurdles, 300 Meters and several field events were held both on Friday evening and Saturday evening.
