Georgetown Prep's Steven Duplinski (16:03) narrowly missed the 16:00 course record on a punishingly hot (mid 80s) and very humid day. He led Matt Centrowitz (Broadneck MD) by 2 seconds (photo) with his 4:49 initial mile; he beat 2nd-place Brad Siragusa (Chantilly VA) to the finish by 41 seconds. A week earlier Duplinski won the junior men world triathlon championships in Japan, beating an international field by 29 seconds. Christy Johnson (19:38) of Bryn Mawr (MD) was the only woman under 20:00 on the difficult Hereford course.
