Boys Distance races

Boys DMR - Newton North MA 10:04.15
Observors knew Newton North MA had one of the country's elite distance runners to anchor in Chris Barnicle, but they didn't know what else they had. Turns out they had plenty, taking the lead at the end of the opening leg and never trailing after that. David Polgar, the Massachusetts indoor mile champion, opening with 3:06.4 for 1200 meters, followed by David Slifer 49.8 for 400 meters and Jed Carpenter 1:57.4 for 800 meters before Barnicle got the stick. Barnicle blistered the first lap in 59.5 and ended with a 4:10.6 anchor split, but had a look of disgust on his face when that time was announced. Coach Jim Blackburn said Barnicle wanted a 4:05 split. "He's never satisfied. That's why he's so great."

Boys Mile - Andrew Jesien MD 4:10.80

Baylor TN sr Oliver Townsend 4:11.91 US#2 went with Jesien to grab second while Roberts finished third in 4:14.18. Brian Scotland NJ, favored after Shenendehowa NY jr Dan McManamon opted to scratch and save himself for Saturday's 4x800 final, faded after leading the first two laps.

Boys 3000 - Bobby Papazian 8:29.00
In a race with a new leader for six straight laps, Colorado bound Bobby Papazian broke away in the last two laps. Emmaus PA sr Sam Luff 8:33.45 was second.
