Pete Cava's report

100 meters: Aided by a 1.2 mps wind, J-Mee Samuels took command a little before the halfway mark and held off Jerek Hewett at the finish. Samuels, from Mount Tabor High School in Winston-Salem , N.C. , finished in 10.34, the year's fastest prep time.

Hewett, from South Brunswick High School in Shallotte, N.C, was second in 10.39, a personal best.

Samuels, a double winner at the Great Southwest Invitational in Albuquerque on June, took the win in stride. Right now I'm not worried about anybody, said the 5-7, 167-pound Arkansas signee. I'm pretty much focusing on college times, not my high school times. I need to use whatever they run in college as my competition.

A year ago, Samuels placed fourth in this race. He'll run the 200m Sunday.

Third place went to Michael Garvin ( Upper Saddle River , NJ ) in 10.46.

Elliott Denman's report

100-METER DASH FINAL - The Nike record of 11.39 had been Sanya Richards' property since 2002. Two years later, Richards, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, owned an Olympic x400 relay gold medal.
Now, after taking the Nike title in the meet-record-matching 11.39, with
a 1.0 wind at her back, Alexandria Anderson has golden dreams of her own.
The Chicago senior blasted away from seven pursuers at the 70-meter mark and brought it home in 11.39, fastest 2005 time in the nation.
Anderson, who'd run 11.60 in the qualifying round two and a quarter hours earlier, left no doubts.
Hampton, Va.'s Francena McCorory, after an 11.68 heat, ran 11.68 again but it sufficed only for sixth.
Spurting between Anderson and McCorory were Californian Ebony Collins (11.58), Floridian Brittany Jones (11.63), New Jerseyan Ogechi Nwaneri (11.65) and North Carolinian Gabby Mayo (11.67.)
Collins was the lone senior in the top six. McCorory is a junior,
Collins, Jones and Mayo sophomores, Nwaneri just a freshman.
