Aislinn Ryan catches Nicole Blood and prevails in fight to the finish

Foot Locker champ Aislinn Ryan reeled in Nicole Blood on the last lap and won a furious fight to the finish. Canadian Avril Ogrodnick set the pace for three laps, going through a quarter in 68.1, with Blood, Mary Liz McCurdy and Lindsay Ferguson in the chase. Blood took the lead at the half in 2:22 and started to open some daylight. But Ryan was on the move and was second after three quarters in 3:36.8. Ryan caught Blood at the bell and held her off through a furious last lap. "That was the smartest race she ever ran," said Ryan's Coach Furst. "She was patient and just picked them off one by one." Meanwhile, with three runners under 5:00, Saratoga is poised to smash its national 4xMile record of 20:08.72 set last year. They seem easily capable of smashing under 20 minutes.
