Intro

WALNUT CA 10/23/04 -- Because of achievements in a number of disciplines and a number athletes that have been successful at Mt. SAC and beyond, Mt. San Antonio College or Mt. SAC, calls itself the "College of Champions," and "Where the World's Best Athletes Compete!" In its 57th year, Mt. SAC Cross Country nvitational is only one year less than the age of the college itself. Mt. San Antonio College started out as Eastern Los Angeles County Community College. Then in 1946 it opened its doors as Mt. San Antonio College, renamed after Southern California's tallest and most visible snow-capped mountain (popularly known as Mt. Baldy) in the distance behind the College. The college today remains a community college with an enrollment over 23,000 offering over 200 degree and certificate programs through a semester system and a distinguished athletic program.

This weekend, it hosted the 57th Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational--an event for champions. With poop out hill, resevoir hill and the switchbacks, it is indeed one of the most challenging and exciting athletic events in California and perhaps nationwide. This year 16,000 high school students from over 500 schools are expected to compete at the event. So it's big and bad!

Perched high above the crowd sat a jumbo screen so that all could see the action, awards and interviews. On friday night the screen was used for the showing of are popular, The Steve Prefontaine Story. During the meet, the screen is used to follow the races, see and hear the interviews and awards. Standing in one place, you can see the start, finish and many points along the way. Neat Idea!

All eyes were on the jumbo screen
for results, interviews, awards
