The top athletes under 20 years old compete for a world championship at Grosseto Italy.

Pre-World Meet

A warmup meet was held July 8 at Grosseto with athletes from USA, Australia, New Zealand, Italy, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Saudi Arabia, and Australia competing. Complete results are on the meet's web page. [Thanks to Jim Spier for this link.]

Here are results by Team USA.

Men

  • 100m - USA swept the first six places: Demi Omole 10.66 -3.7, Mark Johnson 10.78, Michael Rodgers 10.78, Ivory Williams 10.82, Trell Kimmons 10.83, and Corey Lacour 10.89.
  • 800m - Russell Brown 1:53.45 was second.
  • 110H - Kevin Craddock 14.26 -3.5 won.
  • PV - Louis Heuser 16-4.25 won. Brandon Glenn no heighted.
  • TJ - Paul Hubbard 51-5.75 won and Mike Whitehead 49-6.5 was third.
  • 4x400 - Two US teams were the only entries, with one running 3:06.79 (Keith Hinnant, Lashawn Merritt, David Kimmons, and Anthony Ramirez) and the other running 3:06.83 (Brandon Johnson, Corey LaCour, Darren Woods and Kerron Clement).

Women

  • 100m - Shantia Moss 12.28 -1.4 was second.
  • 800m - Jessica Eldridge 2:10.92 was 5th and Sarah Bowman 2:11.04 6th.
  • HJ - Sharon Day 5-11.5 won.
  • LJ - Amy Menlove 20-2.25 +1.6 was third and Gayle Hunter 19-11.75 +2.4 was fourth.
  • HT - Kristen Callan 199-4 was second and Laci Heller 167-11 was third.
  • 4x100 - USA teams were 1-2 in 44.05 (Ashley Owens, Juanita Broaddus, Jasmine Baldwin, and Shalonda Solomon) and 44.29 (Ronetta Alexander, Shana Cox, Cleo Tyson, and Alexandria Anderson) over Australia 45.19 and Italy 46.17.
  • 4x400 - USA teams were the only ones entered, running 3:36.55 (Johnsie Liles, Juanita Broaddus, Deanna Lawrence, and Stephanie Smith) and 3:38.14 (Latavia Thomas, Christina Smith, Nicole Leach and Ashlee Kidd).
