Allyson Felix wins silver!
200m - Allyson Felix glows in Athens sun through three straight heat wins and then grabs silver in the finals Wednesday night. Felix, 18 years old and just one year out of Los Angeles Baptist high school, ran 22.18 for second behind Jamaica's Veronica Campbell 22.05 +0.8. Felix claimed the world junior record that was denied her when she ran 22.11 in Mexico City last year but there was no drug testing.
110H round 2 - world and Olympic record holder Allen Johnson is out after crashing one too many hurdles. He hit the fifth hurdle and regained his balance, but after hitting the ninth hurdle he sprawled head first under the 10th and final hurdle. USA's Terrence Trammel and Duane Ross advanced into the semifinals.

This is the week for the real Olympics for us -- track and field. We can't be in Athens, but we can tell you how to find everything on the Internet and on television. We are following the Games that way, with a special eye on the young athletes who were recently high schoolers celebrated on DyeStat -- Alan Webb, Sanya Richards, Laura Gerraughty, Lashinda Demus, Allyson Felix, Chaunte Howard, Monique Henderson, Shalane Flanagan, Dathan Ritzenhein, Lauryn Williams, Lashauntea Moore, Jeremy Wariner, Jonathan Johnson, Sheena Johnson et al. Olympics Thursday

  • M-200m final - Another 1-2-3 sweep for USA !!!
    US Trials champ Shawn Crawford 19.79 +1.2, Bernard Williams (Carver Baltimore MD) 20.01, and 100m gold medal winner Justin Gatlin (Pensacola FL 2000, a champion hurdler in high school) 20.03.
  • M-400H final - Felix Sanchez, of the Dominican Republic but a Southern California high schooler, continued his 3-year unbeaten streak with an easy 47.63 win. USA was out of the medal stand with James Carter (Mervo Tech Baltimore MD) 48.58 fourth and Bennie Brazell (Westbury Houston TX 2001, 2001 Texas 5A 300H champ) 49.51 eighth. Another former Westbury hurdler and Texas champ, Bayano Kamani, running for Panama, was fifth in 48.74.
  • W-4x100 round 1 - USA 41.67 (Angela Williams, Marion Jones, Lauryn Williams, and Latasha Colander) runs away with heat 1 by 1.35 over Bahamas. Russia 42.12 edges Jamaica 42.20 in heat 2.
  • M-800 semi - Jonathan Johnson (Abilene TX 2001, 2000 FLO Outdoor champ, 2001 Texas 5A and Golden West champ) 1:50.10 is last in his heat with the slowest time of the semis.
  • M-110H semi - Terrence Trammell 13.17, second in heat 1 behind Ladji Doucoure FRA 13.06, advances. Duane Ross 13.30 is fifth in his heat but advances to the final on time.
  • W-1500 semi - USA's Carrie Tollefson 4:08.55 is 9th in her heat and fails to advance.
  • M-LJ final - USA goes 1-2 with Dwight Phillips. 8.59 +1.0 (28-2.25) and John Moffitt 8.47 +0.9 (27-9.5).
  • W-HJ prelim - USA got only Amy Acuff 1.95 (6-4.75) into the final. Chaunte Howard (J.W. North Riverside CA 2002, AOC Raleigh national champion) 1.85 and and Tisha Waller 1.89 failed to advance.
