In Albuquerque Warming up for the Great Southwest Classic

Getting Breakfast

We took a short ride over to Nob Hill, just past the University of New Mexico, to have coffee and breakfast at the Flying Star. We found it last year and were looking forward to another visit. It's a low keyed place where you can munch as you read or roam the internet on the free Wi-Fi wireless service. As you walk in you see many tempting delights: bagels, rolls, muffins, pastries of all sorts. You can also have a more robust dish and a glass of wine. After making your selection, you can browse the many magazines and newspapers that are for sale, but no one seems to mind if you read an article or two without payaing. It was a good start to the day. We'll be back.

Molly Kennedy-TN Molly won the high jump at 5-7.75 and long jump at 18-1.75 and placed high in the other events to lead from the second event to the finish. She won with 4941 points.

Multi events are not generally included in most meets. So when the opportunity arises, many athlete take advantage. This year the Great Southwest has athletes from Tennessee participating in the meet and enjoying New Mexico attractions. Here are three athletes from Brentwood, TN: (from left) Molly Kennedy, Phillipa Davies, and Lauren Stewart. While the girls are all from Brentwood TN, they attend different high schools.
Jeanine Dancy-AZ with her family: (from left) Dad, Ed, Missy Bates, Jeanine, Mom, Linda and sister, Joyelle (front). Jeanine finished 13th.
Aubrie Stavig-NM with her friends Craig White and lauren Thompson.
No, those aren't tears.....these folks are protecting their eyes from the dust and sand being blown around by a front coming through the area. It caused a 10 minute delay.

Practicing for Saturday

While the multi events were going on, the track was open to athletes performing on Saturday. Many took advantage of the time and place to practice.
