100
Ivory Williams TX sr 10.41 -0.9
With Walter Dix pulling out of the meet after his loss in the prelim, Williams had clear sailing.
Texas and Great Southwest double champ Ivory Williams vs. Florida double champ Walter Dix, with Trell Kimmons MS, Marcus Pugh OK, Michael Grant GA, and Imani Butler MO sure to make it very interesting.
200
Lashawn Merritt VA sr 20.80 +0.0
Virginia star completes a 200-400 double, with Cedric Goodman GA second in both.
If he wins the 400, Lashawn Merritt VA 20.69 US#3 will try to duplicate his 400-200 double at the Nike Indoor Championships. Here he will run into Ivory Williams TX, who won the 100 Friday night and looks for his third 100-200 double of the year (Texas 5A state meet and Great Southwest). Both are smooth running muscle machines with great futures predicted. Also entered are Florida champ Walter Dix, Imani Butler MO, and Cedric Goodman GA.
400
Lashawn Merritt VA sr 45.38
Fastest 400m of the year.
After setting a national record indoors at Simplot (45.92), Elzie Coleman NY missed the Penn Relays and NY state meet because of suspension after a school fight, so he should be hungry. He won the Golden West last week in 45.93, US#3 this year. But the race is about more than Coleman. Lashawn Merritt VA 45.88 US#2 tripled 100-200-400 in the VA state meet, first to do that since 1975. Cedric Goodman GA 45.94 US#4 beat Coleman at Mobile. Zach Logan OH 46.64 US#8 upset the great Ted Ginn in the OH state meet.
800
Timothy Harris FL sr 1:49.30
Out hard and still strong enough to hold off late surges by the opposition.
This race should be won by one of the sub-1:51 two lappers entered: Florida 3A champ Tim Harris 1:49.75 US#2, Indiana champ John Hiestand 1:50.40 US#5, Texas 5A champ Kyle Miller 1:50.94 (who led his Cinco Ranch Katy team to victory in the 1600 SMR Friday night with a come from behind 1:51-point anchor), and Josh Wolfe MA 1:50.96 to win the French national scholastic championship (Wolfe is a Canadian citizenn from Quebec who attends school at Phillips Andover Academy).
Mile
Gavin Coombs CT sr 4:05.72
Coombs pulls out another last second victory, and Victor Gras 4:06.39 suffers another big meet loss after setting all the pace (Millrose Games and Penn Relays). Craig Miller PA 4:06.76 comes close to Jess See's national sophomore class record of 4:06.07 set here last year.
After his resounding win in the 2-mile Friday night, Shadrack Kiptoo NM has been moved into the seeded section, contrary to the meet's long standing policy against distance doubles by the boys. He should become the favorite, although the competition includes six sub-4:10 four lappers -- Victor Gras MA, Gavin Coombs CT, Mike Booth PA, Chris Spooner PA, Justin Switzer MI, and super soph Craig Miller PA. Spooner and Miller won separate classes in the PA state meet, and Booth left his best race in an earlier meet. Gras, who comes off a great win in the MA state meet (4:05.14, US#2 this year), has to shake the pattern of last lap losses after leading from the opening gun at the Millrose Games indoors and Penn Relays outdoors.
2-Mile
Shadrack Kiptoo NM sr 8:45.44
The expected showdown with Josh McDougal NY 8:48.11 was as good as advertised with little daylight between them until Kiptoo pulled away in the last 300 meters. Christo Landry VA 8:48.25 made a bold move on the last lap, passing McDougal, but McDougal came back in the stretch. .
Pre-race speculation centers on showdown between Josh McDougal NY, whose home schooled status keeps him away from in-season prep competition, and Nike Indoor and Great Southwest champ Shadrack Kiptoo NM, still waiting to run back to his Kenyan times before coming to the US. This speculation overlooks defending champ Christian Wagner IN, who is present and able bodied, plus Chris Barnicle MA (8:50.92 winner at Hartford), and Hakon Devries NY.
Steeple
Charles Hampton AZ sr 5:58.57
Just caught defending champ Andres Urbina NM 5:58.72 after the last barrier.

110H
Theodore Ginn OH sr 13.46 -0.2
Ginn adds individual gold to two relay wins with ease to become the most decorated athlete of the meet. Expected showdown with Jason Richardson TX fizzled halfway when Richardson suddenly stopped and walked off the track. Ginn looked back but he wasn't there.
Colossal showdown between US season leader Jason Richardson TX 13.38 and defending champion Theodore Ginn OH 13.40, who breezed through their heats in the two fastest qualifying times Friday night. Another sub-14 qualifier was Julius Jiles-Tindall MO, who laughed after his 13.86 heat win, "This is fun. It's boring to run against 15s all year," an apparent put down of his in-season competition in the Midwest.
400H
Jason Richardson TX sr 49.79
Tall, smooth striding Texan had a strikingly easy win, with US#3 all time performance, only the fourth ever to break 50 seconds.
Jason Richardson TX gets better as the distance gets longer, and he is the favorite here after winning the Texas 5A 300H in 36.05 US#2. Julius Jiles-Tindall MO is US#3 at the 300m hurdles. Reuben McCoy is the US season leader after his 51.39 win in the New Jersey Meet of Champions, but he was injured in the closing 4x400 at the same meet and is doubtful.

4x100
Glenville Cleveland OH 40.51
Ted Ginn caught national leading Lancaster TX 40.89 on the anchor leg. Glenville's B team was third in 41.28.
Ted Ginn's mighty Glenville Cleveland squad looks for a sprint relay triple after winning the 4x200 over Texas 4A triple champion Lancaster Friday night.
4x200
Glenville Cleveland OH 1:23.78
Ohio muscle men run fastest time of year in first of two wins over Texas champion Lancaster 1:24.25. Camden NJ 1;24.90 is 3rd in 1:24.90.
Lancaster TX swept the sprint relays at the Texas Relays and the Texas 4A state meet, and they are top seeded in all three events here. But they will have their hands full in this race with Theodore Ginn's Glenville Cleveland OH squad, champions of Arcadia and Ohio.
4x400
Newburgh NY 3:12.81
With 5th-year Pearson brothers running, Newburgh has better support for indoor 400m record holder Elzie Coleman and completes a double (1600 SMR). . They deny Glenville Cleveland OH 3:13.44 a third relay win and Ted Ginn a 4th gold medal. Camden NJ 3:13.58 collected another bronze medal.

DMR

Saline wins a second relay gold, with Dustin Voss doing the anchor heroics this time in a four-lap duel with James Scheimer of Westfield VA 10:05.68
Well balanced field is headed by defending champion Spirit of Pre TC (Saline MI), which won the 4x800 Friday night, Pope John XXIII NJ, John Jay NY, Ridgewood NJ, Shenendehowa NY (winner of the 4xMile Saturday morning), and Cardinal O'Hara PA.

Cleo Tyson TX sr 11.52 -3.2
exuberant Texan knocks off Alexandria Anderson 11.63 and Shalonda Solomon 11.74.
Poly Long Beach CA superstar relay anchor Shalonda Solomon seeks individual title denied her by Allyson Felix and Jasmine Baldwin in CA state meets. Fierce opposition will be provided by Alexandria Anderson IL, dubbed Alex the Great after her sensational quad in IL state meet; Cleo Tyson TX, Courtney Champion GA, Rachel Foster TX, and the Calhoun twins of CT.
200
Shalonda Solomon CA sr 23.42 +0.0
Poly star wins decisively.
Poly Long Beach CA superstar Shalonda Solomon (anchor of 9 US record relay teams) still looks for that elusive individual title after losing the 100 final Friday night to Cleo Tyson TX. The same competition returns today with Tyson, Courtney Champion GA, Alexandria Anderson IL, Bianca Knight MS, and Krystin Lacy TX.
400
Natasha Hastings NY sr 52.89
National leader is easily the best, with freshman Bianca Knight MS 53.35 and soph Brandi Cross TX 53.69 in the wings for next year.
Natasha Hastings NY moved into the favorite's role with her Golden South win in 52.43, fastest in the country this year. She will be tested by TX soph Brandi Cross 53.79 US#9, Arcadia champ Nicole Leach PA 53.58 US#6, and MS freshman Bianca Knight 53.81.
800
Sarah Bowman VA jr 2:04.94
Bowman's resurgence continues with a wire to wire blitz ending with fastest US time in 8 years.
Solid field with four top 10 national ranking runners -- US#2 Mackenzie Pierce NC 2:06.87, US#3 Janine Davis NJ 2:06.87, US#5 Sarah Bowman 2:07.69, and US#6 Geena Gall MI 2:07.9. Bowman is also entered in the mile, which is only 40 minutes later, so she may scratch from one or the other.
Mile

Nicole Blood NY soph 4:42.40
Fastest mile of year lives up to advance hype. Typical front runner Blood lets Jenny Barringer and Caitlin Chock set the pace and rallies just in time to break a 26-year-old national sophomore class record..

Freshman mile is won by Rachel Wittum, Rockford MI 5:04.26, breaking Sarah Bowman's meet record 5:05.62 set in 2002. .

The meet is calling it the BEST GIRLS MILE EVER, and they may be right. The seeded section grew to 15 because it seemed impossible to leave out sub-4:50 milers. A favorites list must include at least half the field: Saratoga NY's "veteran" sophomore Nicole Blood, Ketelyn Kaltenbach CO, Caitlin Chock CA (who ran a 9:58.51 3200 US#3 all time at the Golden West last week), Penn Relays champ Sarah Bowman VA, PA champ Frances Koons, new OH record holder Maggie Infeld, and FL burner Jenny Barringer. A big question mark goes over Barringer and Kaltenbach after their poor showing in the 2-mile Friday night (9th and 10th). Normal front runners Nicole Blood and Sarah Bowman should insure an honest pace, so the winner may have to run the fastest mile of the year, 4:43 or better, and maybe even down toward Ari Lambie's stellar 4:39.05 meet record US#3 all time last year.
2 Mile
Sunni Olding OH sr 10:24.19
Olding repeats in stirring stretch duel with Shannon Bergstedt MN 10:24.29. Pre-race favorirte Katelyn Kaltenbach fades after bumping incident left her in the infield. Barringer never a factor.
It's tempting to concede this race to Katelyn Kaltenbach, champion of Foot Locker, Arcadia and Colorado, but that would diminish defending champion Sunni Olding OH, who just wins, Jenny Barringer FL, who has been unbeatable since her photo finish loss to Kaltenbach in the Great American cross country meet last fall, and Minnesota champ Shannon Bergstedt.
Steeple
Lindsey Ferguson NY soph 6:55.02
Mid-day heat slows national record holder.

100H
Shantia Moss FL sr 13.67 -0.2
Huge margin for US#1 runner
Top seeded Shantia Moss FL 13.51 US#3 did nothing to undermine her favorite's role in the Friday heats, running the only sub-14 time. Fellow Floridian Pavi'Elle James 13.53 US#4 was a casualty of the heats as she was upset in her heat by Krystal Barringer NC and just missed the fourth qualifying spot on time.
400H
Selena Sappleton NY sr 1:00.11
Wire to wire win with no one under 1 minute.
US#1 Katya Kostetskaya and US#2 Nicole Leach are not entered, so US#3 Selena Sappleton NY steps into the favorite's role. She is the only girl with a sub-60 second time with her 58.94 victory at the NY state meet
HJ

4x200
Skyline Dallas TX 1:36.73
not even close; 3-second margin

Distant runner-up seeds in this race are Morgan Park IL (Alexandria Anderson), Maryland Jaguars (Tiffany Nesfield), Mumford Detroit (Jessica Jones) and Largo MD (Michaylin Golladay).

4x800
Bay Shore NY 8:57.48 US#1
Part one of battle with Eureka MO 9:00.16 which would be continued Saturday night in DMR.
US #1 Bay Shore NY 8:59.21 is big favorite, led by Laura Cummings and Mary Liz McCurdy, especially with 8th grader Sarah McCurdy eligible. Very respectable opposition is led by Eureka MO (Meredith Snow) and Central Catholic Allentown PA (Frances Koons).

West Catholic PA 3:52.22 USR
Latavia Thomas' 2:07+ anchor powers all-undergrad team to national record over A.P. Randolph NY 3:53.62.
Three-way battle looms between Eastern big city powers. New York Armory indoor rivals West Catholic Philadelphia PA 3:55.00 (Nicole Leach and Latavia Thomas) and A.P. Randolph NY 3:55.92 (Natasha Hastings and Selena Sappleton) are joined by Beaumont Cleveland Heights OH 3:56.50 (Maggie Infeld).
DMR
Bay Shore NY 11:33.42 USR
Eureka MO pushes Bay Shore to limit in fastest US DMR ever, with these two 4 seconds faster than Red Bank NJ's record here last year. Third place Saratoga 11:43.81 became US#6 all time.
Saratoga NY held its big guns Nicole Blood and Lindsay Ferguson out of the 4xMile relay to concentrate on this event. They could be thwarted by Bay Shore NY, which ran second to Red Bank NJ's national record 11:37.86 here last year, or Concordia Fort Wayne IN.
Race Walk
Maria Michta NY sr 7:16.02 MR
Michta takes 7 seconds off meet record.
