  • Decathlon - Tom Pappas wins gold by preserving his overall point lead in the closing 1500 meters. Pappas was 11th at 4:44.31, but that was a personal best and he only lost 63 points to Roman Sebrle 4:34.45. Final overall points: Pappas 8750, Sebrle 8634 and Karpov 8374.
  • M-200 quarters - USA advances all three runners to semis. John Capel 20.30 +0.1 and Darvis Patton 20.40 +0.6 win 2 of 4 heats, and. Joshua Johnson 20.22 +0.7 is second in his heat.
  • M-200 round 1 - Darvis Patton 20.27 -0.5 wins heat; Joshua Johnson 20.56 and John Capel 20.59 also advance.
  • W-200 semis - US champion Kelli White 22.50 -0.1 won her heat, but France's Muriel Hurtis 22.41 -0.2 was faster in the other heat. Torri Edwards 22.44 was third behind Hurtis and also advanced to the finals.
  • Decathlon Jav - Tom Pappas 216-2 put away Dmitry Karpov 155-11 but Roman Sebrle CZE 228-11 gained. With only the 1500m left, Pappas 8097 leads by 179 points over Sebrle 7918, with Karpov 7679 in third. In the US championships, Pappas ran 4:48.12 in the 1500 for 630 points and a personal best overall score of 8,784 points..
  • Decathlon 8 events - US champion Tom Pappas finally overhauls Dmitry Karpov with 17-0.25 in pole vault for 941 points. With the javelin and 1500 remaining, Pappas has 7,270 points and Karpov 7,127. Earlier today, Karpov shaded Pappas in the 110H and DT to maintain his first day lead.
  • W-100H finals - Miesha McKelvy 12.67 is third and Jenny Adams 12.77 sixth. Perdita Felicien 12.53 -0.2, of the U. of Illinois, set a Canadian national record in winning the event.
  • W-1500 prelim - Regina Jacobs 4:08.64 runs third in heat to advance to semis.
  • M-1500 final - Hicham El Gherrouj 3:31.77 wins fourth straight world title over France's Mehdi Baala 3:32.31.
  • W-400 final - Mexico's Ana Guevara cruises in 48.89, fastest time in the world in the past 6 years.
  • M-400H semi - Joey Woody 48.24 is second to Periklis Iakovakis 48.17 to advance to finals. Felix Sanchez 48.16 is fastest of semis. Eric Thomas 49.00 fails to advance.
