Florida’s Rickey Harris(1), going for his 3rd straight college title in this
event, won the high school race in 1998 and 1999. His streak was interrupted
in 2000, his senior year, when he separated his shoulder during the race and
had to pull up. Bennie Brazell(LSU) and Fred Sharpe(Auburn) finished 2-3
behind Harris at last year’s NCAA Outdoor Championships.
182-208 High School Boys 4x400s 9:20 am-11:04am

Academy,NY(E-3:18.06), and Transit Tech,NY(A-3:18.07) were among the best

16-year old Usain Bolt, who won the Jamaican 400 title in 45.35. The fastest

Arkansas(A) returns all 4 members of last year’s winning team(Mike Taylor,
Chris Mulvaney, Daniel Lincoln, Alistair Cragg). James Hatch, with a 1500
best of 3:41.46, is an able subsitute if one of those 4 can’t run. When coach
John McDonnell sent in his entry for this event, he listed an estimated time
of 15:59.99. A tad optomistic, perhaps, but this team does have the talent
to challenge the collegiate record of 16:07.96, set by another Arkansas team
at the 1999 Relays. Abilene Christian may be the only team that can push the
Razorbacks.
