Since Sheena Johnson's 3-year reign ended in 2000, this event has belonged to Jamaicans. The morning line on this early morning race had this year's Jamaican national champion, Sheryl Morgan, favored over three Philadelphia girls -- West Catholic soph Nicole Leach, Merion Academy sr Tiffany Abney, and William Penn sr Christina Smith. And that's how the race played out, with Morgan winning easily and the Philadelphia girls taking the next three spots, all under 60 seconds.

Leach (left) was fourth at the last hurdle (above), but outsprinted Abney and Smith to the finish line (below). "I just started thinking about that watch," Leach said. As the first American finisher, she earned a Penn Relays watch along with Morgan.

Morgan 58.15 wins, with Leach 59.00 (blue at right) second.
