Texas has always had great boy pole vaulters. Now, with the adoption of the event finally for girls, there are lots of good girl pole vaulters springing up in the Lone Star State. Hays Buda junior Britni Lawrence is one of the first wave. She held off Katie Morgan and April Kubishta from Arizona, which also sent a big delegation of pole vaulters to the meet. Lawrence (left) has an unorthodox style. She pushes the pole down the runway with her right hand until grabbing it also with her left hand just before takeoff.
