Thurgood Marshall TX freshman Brandi Cross made her first taste of high school competition a winning one. Thurgood Marshall is a new school with only the 9th and 10th grades, so they could not field a varsity team this year under Texas rules. Cross won the USATF Junior Olympics Youth Girls (13-14) 400 meters last year in Omaha at 53.40.

It was a duel with Skyline Dallas TX sr Jennifer Hunt, who finished 3rd in the Texas 5A state meet, with Cross in lane 4 and Hunt in lane 5.
