Ashley Owens was easy to overlook She was the shortest runner in the field, and she was seeded on the outside (lane 1), which meant she wasn't supposed to beat the big girls in the favored middle lanes. But when it was over, there was the latest in a long line of coach Tony Wells' proteges on top of the awards stand. Owens came here off a sprint double in the Colorado 4A state meet a week ago, so her opponents should have been forewarned. Jessica Onyepunuka of Arizona was second, pushing the touted Texas sprinters to places 3 through 7.
