Theodore Ginn 13.62 - Cleveland's red streak

The brightest of the new national stars this year was Glenville Cleveland OH junior Theodore Ginn. He was a red streak time after time on Saturday. First, he anchored Glenville's national record setting 800m sprint medley in the early afternoon. Then he "upset" the top two hurdlers in the country in the 110m high hurdles. Finally, in the last race of the meet, he almost won the 4x400 relay with a stunning burst on the far turn of the third leg. It took Winslow NJ all but the last few steps of the anchor leg to overhaul Glenville, 3:10.47 to 3:10.66.

The hurdle final was supposed to be a showdown between Texans Jason Richardson and Kerron Clement, ranked #1 and #2 in the US and holding one victory apiece in two previous meetings (Texas State Meet and the Great Southwest Classic). But it was all Ginn as he hit the last hurdle with a clear lead and held off Richardson by two hundredths of a second.
