[in the spotlight as world 100 meter record holder bearing the
title of "the world's fastest man,"] Montgomery even

said personal issues had sidelined him for a while, but now "the
rain clouds are starting to spread and the son is starting to
shine."
Montgomery addressed his controversial decision
to change coaches to Charlie Francis, who coached Ben Johnson
when his 1988 Olympic 100 meter victory over Carl Lewis was taken
away because of drug use."I was 12 years old in 1988,"
Montgomery said. "Whatever happened to Ben Johnson, he had
to have technique. I went to find out how he got that technique.
I judge people by their character, not their past." (Montgomery
has dropped Francis as his coach after the negative publicity.)
