In 35 years of Arcadia, no one had ever won a sprint triple (100-200-400). Now they have. Xavier Carter, wearing the black and white skull and crossbones singlet of Palm Bay Melbourne FL, crossed the continent to lay his claim as the nation's best sprinter. He opened with an explosive finish in the 100 to overcome a poor start. At 70 meters, he was trailing Derrick Jones of California and J-Mee Samuels of North Carolina. But Carter cranked up the power and crossed the finish line a decisive winner in 10.38 +1.2. The next two parts of the triple were routine as Carter overpowered the fields from the beginning to win the 400 in 46.72 and the 200 in 20.85 -1.0. By the 200, only two brave souls dared to challenge Carter.

Ricky Quintana's Quotes

Xavier Carter: I came out of the blocks kind of slow. I picked it up down the track and managed to pull away and come out with a win.
RQ: Were you worried at about 70 meters?
Carter: Yeah, because I was behind.
RQ: You seemed like you tied up a little bit.
Carter: Yeah. My form started to go. I just decided to muscle it on through. And that what came out. I came out with a win.
RQ: 10:38.
Carter: Yeah, that’s my best time.
RQ: What do you think about Arcadia and this whole meet?
Carter: I like it. I like the crowd. I’m not used to having a crowd, but I like it.
RQ: What about the coolness? Did that bother you at all?
Carter: Yeah, it got my chest a little stuffy, but I pulled through it.
RQ: 400, 200 still on deck?
Carter: Yes sir. Yeah, I’m still running them.
RQ: Do you think you can produce fast times?
Carter: I’m going to try. Leave it on the track.

Maurice Greene
RQ: What did you think about Xavier?
Maurice Greene: I was really watching my boys that I train [Taft Woodland Hills CA]… I mean, but what I’ve seen, he’s a very good athlete. He has a lot of potential. He’s going to be good.

Ricky Quintana's Quotes

Xavier Carter:
Carter: It felt great. I just have to run the 200 and then I’m out of here.
RQ: Did you feel the sting in your legs from the 100?
Carter: Yeah, I’m feeling it right now. I’ll just suck it up, go rest and come back for the 2.

Ricky Quintana's Quotes

Xavier Carter:
Carter: It was great.
RQ: 20.85 into a wind.
Carter: Yeah, I felt the wind on the backstretch. So I just gutted the last 100m.
RQ: How about J-Mee on your inside. Did that apply any pressure?
Carter: No not really. There was a plan for me to come out in the curve and stride and pull away on the straight away.
RQ: Down the straight away you just pulled away. Did you feel you broke him?
Carter: Yeah, that’s my strongest point. So I just held on for the curve , then as I came off the curve I just pushed it.
RQ: How do you feel?
Carter: I feel great.
