Ricky Quintana's Quotes

Megan Kaltenbach
It was fun. I just kind of sat. I was a little worried. But it was fun just sitting and kicking.
RQ: I heard you telling John Dye that you went to Cancun last week.
Kaltenbach: The week before I went to Cancun and trained. It was fun just relaxing. I was talking to Rich and he was like “You are not going to Cancun to train!” I’m like “Yes, I am! I do it every year.” I did it last year, but it wasn’t so close to the meet last year so I was a little worried.
RQ: Did you just sit and kick today?
Kaltenbach: Yeah, I just think I need to get a little bit of confidence back from like Maryland. I was just like “I’m going to run my own race,” but we went out so slow so I decided to just sit and kick so I just ended up kicking.
RQ: Were you scheduled to be in the mile or not?
Kaltenbach: Yeah, I was, but then I switched. Last year, I ran a lot of two miles before I ran that mile so that’s what I want to do again. My season is going to be really long this year because I’m going to do US Nationals.
RQ: Seniors?
Kaltenbach: Yes.
RQ: Any special reason you are doing that?
Kaltenbach: Yeah, just because I want a longer season because my season gets better at the end. I want to go for some national records. We’ll see what happens. I might be going to one of the other meets. The Maine Distance Festival if I run a fast enough mile before. You have to run like a 4:47.
RQ: Are you going to flirt with doing the mile and two mile during the season?
Kaltenbach: Oh yeah. I want really run the mile, but we’ll see. The 3000 may be my event because in my 10:03, I went through my 3000 in 9:24. We’ll see. My shape.. I don’t think I’m in great shape, but we went out too slow so I just decided to kick. I wanted to go out in 5:05, but we were way off that so I was like nevermind.
[ Speaking to Katie Harrington] Sorry, I yelled at you. Someone just kept kicking me and I was just like “GET OFF OF ME!”
AJ Holzherr: [Pointing at Harrington] She wants you in the mile, too.
Kaltenbach: I’m running the mile for sure.
Harrington: It’s going to be an awesome race.
Kaltenbach: It’s going to be…. I’m so excited. It was like a major push in the race. Everyone was pushing and she kicked me like 15 times so on the last lap I was like “ GET OFF OF ME!” I’m so sorry that I yelled at you. I was like screaming the whole time. And then I got boxed in so I was like “ Amanda, go, Amanda go.” That’s the only way I could get out. So I was talking to everyone the whole race. It was fine.

Katie Harrington
Well, it was a pretty good race. We went out rather slow, but that’s ok because we picked it up towards the end as always. I didn’t get the time that I was hoping to, but that’s ok because I’ll be back next year and California usually has good marks.
RQ: What did you expect coming into the race?
Harrington: I thought it might go out faster and I would just be able to hang with the top girls. Really, it wasn’t anything too unmanageable at the beginning, which was really surprising. It made me wonder “Should I make a move? Should I wait? ” I’m not used to having to take out the pace strong so it was different, but it wasn’t bad.
RQ: How do you like being in these tactical races?
Harrington: I couldn’t believe how tight the field was at first. Like even at the mile. It was brutal there. A lot of girls were spiked. You just have to be tough.
RQ: What’s up for you down the road?
Harrington: The next big race will be my state meet and then I’m going to hit the Adidas Outdoor.
RQ: What are your goals time wise?
Harrington: I’m looking to improve my time significantly, but this a great start of a season basically. They’ll have this kind of competition at Raleigh so it will be great to see how I’ve improved. I can’t really say a time I’m gunning for, but just really fast.
RQ: You’ve made a big jump this year from xc to indoor to now this. Are you excited about that?
Harrington: Yes, I am. It’s really encouraging to have your times keep dropping like that. I hope it continues to happen that way. It’s easier to come to these big meets knowing that you can finally do something rather than sit back and watch all the awesome girls.
